Review: Tantus Charmer

In the late months of 2015/early days of 2016, I decided that I wanted to improve the quality and shelf life of the products in my toybox and remove everything mediocre, low-quality and/or porous. So that’s exactly what I did. Tantus are the best in the business for well-made, body-safe products and naturally I was drawn to them for some of my first purchases. I absolutely loved my first choice, the Curve, so I decided to follow-up with the Charmer. A dildo with similar ridges along the side, albeit more defined, and a slightly slimmer shaft. I definitely made the right choice as I’m still obsessed with the Charmer over twelve months later.

Tantus CharmerThe packaging was typical for Tantus products. A simple white and orange cardboard box with a see-through window in the front to view the toy. There’s a bunch of info about the brand on the back. Inside the box the Charmer is stored in some plastic casing. You do not get a storage bag with Tantus products, so make sure to get one of those separately to keep it safe from lint and other sex toys. I’ve had no issues letting my Tantus toys touch each other, but some retailers don’t recommend it.

As it’s manufactured by a company renowned for dedication to body-safety, you can be assured that their unique formula of ultra-premium, completely safe silicone has been used. It’s free from latex and phthalates, non-toxic, odourless and hypoallergenic. It can be bleached, boiled and placed in the dishwasher for through cleans and peace of mind. I usually wipe down with antibacterial cleaner or a 10% bleach solution for everyday cleaning, but as this is textured I do like to place it in the dishwasher once a month for a deeper clean. This is particularly important if you’re switching between partners and/or orifices.

Tantus CharmerLube wise, I’d recommend sticking to water-based. If you prefer using hybrids then I’d recommend doing a patch test on the base first to be sure that it doesn’t degrade the silicone. I’ve had no issues with Sliquid Organics Silk but I don’t want to use it on this too much.

The silicone used for the Charmer has a glossy finish, rather than the matte finish of the Curve, so it has less drag to it. I would still suggest using a good coating of lubricant especially if you’re new to texture or plan to use this for anal play. I personally didn’t need a lot as this toy is within my ideal dimensions with a 3.75 inch circumference and a usable length of six and a half inches.

When I read through the product description, I was excited to see the Tantus Charmer described as firm as that is what works for my g-spot. It definitely does feel firm out of the box, but there is a minute amount of squish to the lower portion of the shaft. It’s small, but enough to stop the toy from being completely rigid and harsh. Due to this I was not expecting flexibility, but that’s what I got. I can make the head touch the base with some pressure, which is great news for those who may need to adjust the angle or positioning for comfortable use.

Tantus CharmerAlthough there were all these great things going for it, I couldn’t help but feel underwhelmed when it first arrived. I felt that the four ridges across the shaft look less intense in person and I still stand by that now. The photos make them look more pointed and defined, but in reality they are more like soft, rounded bumps attached to the shaft.

They are nowhere near as harsh as the Tsunami’s waves, but they are more noticeable than those lines on the Curve. It’s the perfect medium really. I proceeded with insertion despite my initial reservations and was met with the shock of a lifetime as the ridges pulled, pushed, bumped and grinded up against my g-spot with each thrust.

In order to feel all of the benefits that the Charmer offers, thrusting is essential. I don’t mean the super hard, intense, fuck-me-quickly thrusting, but the kind where a gentle rocking back and forth or game of tug of war with your motions is used. So, in, out and repeat basically. The Charmer doesn’t really work as a furious thruster because it’s quite slimline and flexible which makes those movements difficult. It also stops the ridges from maintaining pressure on the g-spot, which is not what I want. I think this is a toy that has been designed with the idea of users taking their time. It’s a lie back, relax and thrust gently until it pushes you into orgasmic oblivion sort of toy.

I have not been able to squirt with the Charmer, as I can with the less intense but wider Curve, but I don’t feel that I need to in order to enjoy this toy. It’s my preference for g-spot toys, but it’s not essential. I genuinely like the stimulation this toy provides as is. I personally would not have minded a larger girth for two reasons. 1) I do like a full feeling. I don’t want to be stretched as such, but full is satisfying. 2) I could have then rotated the toy in order for the ridges to rub against the internal walls. As it currently is, the shaft is only wide enough to target the specific g-spot area. It doesn’t really stimulate the sides at all. I feel like those ridges would provide a divine internal massage, although it might have been too much for some with double the pleasure going on.

Overall, I feel like this dildo takes a relaxed, laid-back approach to sexual satisfaction. It’s a toy that’s meant to be savoured and enjoyed, rather than being raced to the finish line for a quick fix. If you’re looking for that reliable quick-release dildo, your search is not over. The Charmer is absolutely perfect for getting to know your body with, particularly if the g-spot is new to you, and is great for determining how much pressure and texture you like. It’s ideal for lazy masturbation sessions with no time frame and wonderful for warm-ups to something more intense like the Bound or Tsunami.

Review: Joyride Textured Devil Tongue Glass Dildo

Joyride Devil Tongue Glass DildoI’m a texture slut who happens to have a passion for glass, so the combination of these two things always starts a pretty crazy party in my pants. I mentioned in my recent review of the Icicles 24 that I seem to be drawn to these tentacle looking toys at the moment and this one definitely fit the bill. It’s not quite a tentacle, but the shape and texture are pretty similar to the others I’ve been loving recently. It seems that the party news spread fast as Lovehoney decided to send a guest my way, in the form of this Devil’s Tongue.

It arrived in a classy white box with a cut-out window in the front to view the toy. It has multilingual use and care instructions on the back along with a small sticker that indicates the product dimensions. It’s fairly simplistic in design but it’s nice enough. Inside, the toy was housed within a foam tray alongside a grey velvet storage pouch, which was an appreciated extra.

Joyride Devil Tongue Glass DildoWhen I removed the dildo from the box, I had to take a few minutes to admire the aesthetics. It really is beautiful. I knew it was going to be from the online product photos I saw, but it’s even better in the flesh. It’s hard to tell from images how striking this thing really is, but once you get it under the light the maroon swirls in the material become truly evident. Its glorious textured surface sparkles and glistens as the light catches it, which in my opinion, adds to the beauty and makes it look more expensive than it is.

It’s made from an incredibly robust borosilicate glass and it feels grand. I have encountered a couple of cheap feeling glass toys upon my sex toy journey, but this is definitely not one of them. It feels high-quality, sturdy and the hand-crafting has been done to perfection. I could find no flaws with the design, appearance or its gorgeous ribbed finish. The only negative thing about something as textured as this is that it can be a pain to clean. Luckily, it can be sanitized in the top rack of a dishwasher as often as necessary to remove any harbouring lint or fluids. For everyday cleaning, soapy water and an old toothbrush does the trick.

I love glass for two major reasons. The first is that any type of lubricant can be used with them without interfering with or degrading the material. I generally prefer to use something slick and silicone-based as I think it glides better than something water-based, but it’s nice to have options. The second thing is temperature play; which is something that I treasure. Glass can be cooled down or warmed up for added sensation. I like to chill mine before use by placing it in the fridge for ten to twenty minutes, but it can also be placed in a bowl of warm/cold water to change the temperature.

Joyride Devil Tongue Glass DildoIn terms of size, I think the dimensions are perfect. It has roughly 3.3 inches of girth around the tapered tip, which should be manageable for most people, and this goes up to around 4.7 inches at the widest portion of the insertable shaft. As for the length, there’s eight inches total and six and a half are insertable. This is just about right for me. It’s not so short that it can’t hit the right spots, but it’s not long enough to be jamming into my cervix as I manoeuvre it. The remaining length makes up the curved finger loop at the base which makes movement feel comfortable, controlled and effortless.

I had some reservations about this toy prior to using it, mostly revolving around the pointed tip. I was unsure whether it would be would be comfortable during insertion and use, but it’s actually reassuringly smooth and slid inside with no problems. I was also unsure of whether it would be wide enough to stimulate my g-spot or not, as I generally prefer a wider surface area for this job, but this seems to be one of the exceptions.

It found my g-spot with little to no effort required on my part and the firm pressure it placed upon it told me that I would have no issues from this point onwards. It sort of hugged my g-spot softly at first, but this would soon change as I switched up my actions. For example, if I used it with a thrusting motion then the textured bumps begin massaging the vaginal walls and my entrance whilst the tapered tip worked on my g-spot. It lead to a slow but intense orgasm. If I opted for a rocking movement, the tip rested firmly in position which caused a much faster climax.

Joyride Devil Tongue Glass DildoI also tried twisting the toy around onto its side as I felt this might give the tip better access to my g-spot and really allowed the texture to work its magic on my vaginal walls. I seemed to orgasm pretty damn quickly with this method. The best method for me though was clenching around it as I inserted the widest part of the shaft inside. I could feel it trying to push its way back out of my body as I orgasmed from the forceful pressure which was placed upon my g-spot. It was divine.

Overall, it seems that it doesn’t matter how I use this toy, whether I want to thrust it, rock it, twist it or clench it, it all just feels good. As a result, it has very quickly forced its way into my favourites. I was expecting this toy to be a pleasant experience but the bumps, grooves and curves are far better than I could have ever anticipated and are dangerously susceptible to my sensitivities. I really enjoy it and if s-shaped, textured glass appeals to you, then I think you will enjoy it too.

You can no longer purchase the Joyride Textured Devil’s Tongue (£44.99) from Lovehoney as it has since be discontinued. I will update with new links if/when I find a new stockist.

Review: Lovehoney Beaded Sensual Glass Dildo Black

Lovehoney Beaded Sensual Glass Dildo BlackWhen the opportunity arose to get my hands on a piece of black glass, I just had to go for it. Arriving in the standard Lovehoney packaging that I know and love, I couldn’t wait to open up the box. The toy was wrapped securely inside a layer of soft foam and a velvet storage bag, so I needn’t have worried about it chipping during travel.

So, why are glass toys great? I could come up with a whole host of reasons, but I think there are three most important points. The first is the fact that glass is a body-safe material, so it isn’t toxic or porous and it contains no odours. It’s hypoallergenic and incredibly easy to clean with soap and water. The second reason is that any type of lubricant can be used with them, without damaging the material. I generally opt for something slick and silicone-based for glass, but you can use water-based, hybrid or even oil if you wish. The third reason is temperature play. Glass can be warmed up in warm water, cooled down in cold water or placed in the fridge for several minutes before use to change-up the sensations.

Lovehoney Beaded Sensual Glass Dildo BlackI think this particular toy is perfect for those who are looking to explore the world of textured glass, possibly for the first time. It has a beautiful rippling texture that looks and feels divine for internal and external play, but it is subtle. It’s ideal for those new to glass and/or texture as it’s not overwhelming or intimidating. It somehow still manages to be stimulating enough for seasoned players though, which is one of the mysteries that make this such a good toy.

It is nine inches in overall length, with eight inches being insertable. It is dual ended, with one side being noticeably wider. The thinner end has a maximum girth of just over four inches, which should be manageable for most, but beginners may need a warm-up with fingers or a thin toy beforehand. I can take this end easily, which is perfect to warm-up with before flipping the toy around. The maximum girth of this side is about five and a half inches.

Lovehoney Beaded Sensual Glass Dildo BlackI began with the slimmer, pointed end and was pleasantly surprised, but pleased, when it made a connection with my g-spot after just two thrusts. I continued my thrusting motion and after a few moments I knew that I would be adding this to the top dildo drawer. The rippled shaft stimulated my vaginal walls whilst the firm pressure continued to mound against my spot, sending me into a blissful trance. I also liked how the ripples felt when twisting the toy, but found that this made the tip lose contact with the g-spot, so it’s a technique I only really use when warming up.

Whilst I can reach an orgasm with this end, I have to be in a specific position for the best consistent access. I discovered laying on my side with one slightly raised leg worked best. I can’t get the same stimulation in a missionary position. This position also allows great access for a wand vibrator to be added into the mix. I can’t hold and manoeuvre both at the same time as the weight becomes too much, but luckily enough, there’s a big, strong man in my life that’s more than happy to do one of those jobs.

Lovehoney Beaded Sensual Glass Dildo BlackThe other end is larger, rounder and bulbous, so I was expecting it to work wonders with my g-spot and from the moment it made contact, I knew that was exactly what was about to happen. When the toy is thrusted with this end, the pressure that begins to build is incredibly intense and it feels fabulous. My legs turn to liquid and the sheets below me begin to dampen within minutes. If squirting is appealing to you, then the bulbous, rounded end is where those results can happen.

Overall, I feel that this is a suitable toy for everyone, regardless of experience level, as there is a slim end that is suitable for newbies and a larger end for those who can take slightly bigger toys and crave deep intensity. I absolutely adore the sensations that this toy has brought into my bedroom and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
