Review: Cottelli Collection Lingerie Wet Look Basque

As a woman with major body issues and self-esteem problems, lingerie has become a vital part of my sex life. In fact, lets scratch that and say everyday life. I try to wear something pretty and confidence-boosting most days in order to feel better and more comfortable within myself. It is not a miracle worker and doesn’t take away the issues I have but it makes me comfortable enough to be intimate with my partner and that’s been exceptionally helpful in keeping our relationship healthy and exciting. He certainly doesn’t complain when he removes my dress to find a nice bra set or basque underneath and his reactions always add to the initial boost I feel when I pull something on. I’ve now developed quite a sizeable lingerie collection and enjoy adding to it whenever possible. Orion offered to send over a few pieces for me to review and of course I couldn’t refuse this lovely Wet Look Basque from their Cottelli Collection.

Upon its arrival, I was met with a glossy cardboard sleeve which was placed over the top of a patterned box. The sleeve gave a front and back view of the basque, shown on a stunning model, and included a basic material rundown. For those wondering, it’s made up of 90% polyamide and 10% elastane. Inside the patterned box I found the basque and accompanying g-string in a plastic pouch. I decided to instantly remove the Cottelli tags as they were white and highly visible through the material so I knew they’d irritate me.

Surprisingly I don’t think I’ve ever tried a product from this brand before so I had no prior experience to refer to. This meant I wasn’t sure how well it would be made. Quality of lingerie is very important to me so I kept my fingers crossed that this would live up to my standards. It did. There isn’t much to the garment as it’s made from thin, sheer materials but they were not itchy, scratchy or uncomfortable as some other thin lingerie pieces can be. It was put together well and I could no find loose threads or ugly seams to contend with. I was impressed with its build and would definitely be willing to wear more pieces from this range after my experience with this one.

Many lingerie sets come with a matching g-string. This one included. It’s made from the same sheer material as the basque and has wet look straps for detailing. It’s rather basic as I would expect and seems to be more of an afterthought rather than the main event. I have no problem with this as I’m focused on the basque for the most part. I received the small in this set and I wear a UK 4-6 so knickers, thongs and strings that come with sets rarely fit me. This g-string stayed up but was loose-fitting. I had to wear it on my waist rather than the hips so it didn’t sag in the crotch. The model wears it on her hips and I think people who wear a 8-10 on the bottom would be able to do so too. I can wear it if I want to, but I can easily replace it with some better-fitting underwear that I already own.

Cottelli Collection Lingerie Wet Look BasqueThe wet look lines and panelling details on this basque are slimming and contour the frame beautifully. It skimmed my stomach and waistline, drawing attention upwards. It doesn’t draw attention to those unwanted areas and I think it looks very flattering on. As it’s so sheer, my partners eyes were definitely not focusing on my stomach. If you’re conscious about this area too then a piece like this could give you a big confidence boost and keep your partners eyes looking up. If you prefer an air of mystery with your lingerie then you could wear some nipple pasties underneath but I go bare to torment my partner.

I was rather apprehensive about the cups. I wear an A cup, which is proportionate to the rest of my frame, but can make finding lingerie difficult. Sometimes non-padded cups can completely flatten me and take away the little that I have up top but this one didn’t. It fit well, the cups were comfortable and my partner thought they looked good in this. It wasn’t obvious that there was room leftover but I can see this piece fitting bigger cup sizes with no problems. It could probably take up to a DD without a struggle but it should be kept in mind that this doesn’t offer support of any kind. If you need something to support the girls then this probably isn’t the right basque for you.

Cottelli Collection Lingerie Wet Look BasqueThere are two hook and eye fastenings in the back for an adjustable fit. I wear a 30″ band size so I wore it on the second, tightest hook for the best fit. It does fit me well, but it’s not completely snug so I’d say it would also fit a 32 and 34 (in the EU this roughly converts to a 65A to a 75E) with no problems. I tighten the shoulder straps as much as possible to make the basque sit properly on my frame and once these adjustments have been made I am very pleased with the way it sits, feels and looks.

As for the suspenders/garter straps, I can attach stockings to them easily as the clips aren’t too fiddly or stiff. The only problem is that I’m five foot so they are a tiny bit too long for me. Not a fault of the basque at all as this is a common issue for me. If you are five foot three inches and above then these should be the perfect length for you. I do wish they had been removable as well as adjustable so I could take them off and wear thigh highs instead but if they begin to bug me too much then I can always just unstitch them. For now though, I’m wearing them with over the knee socks instead of stockings and it’s working out just fine.

Overall, my partner and I are pleased with this set. It’s comfortable to wear, easy to put-on, well-made and flattering on the frame. I would change a couple of things to make it perfect for me, but these are only minor things that affect me personally rather than faults that will bother everyone.

Review: Dreamgirl Tartan Tease Schoolgirl Costume

I’ve been trying to cut back on the amount of lingerie reviews that I post to my Lovehoney account as I seem to have reviewed so much that I’ve made my profile load slowly – oops! As a result my still-to-review box has been overflowing with gorgeous pieces that are waiting to be written about. I decided it was time to write something new and as I rooted through the options I came across this piece and knew I had to talk about it. The Dreamgirl Tartan Tease is one of my favourite costumes that I currently own and certainly one of my best schoolgirl related outfits. It is often a struggle to find the right combination between sexy and slutty with certain costumes but this particular one has struck the perfect balance.

Dreamgirl Tartan Tease Schoolgirl CostumeArriving in simple fashion, the Tartan Tease comes inside a cardboard sleeve with an image of a model wearing the outfit on the front and back. The outfit was wrapped in some plastic inside and the included novelty glasses were in their own plastic pouch. I hadn’t actually realized glasses were included as I assumed they were just a photo prop (as is often the disappointing case with outfits like this) so I was pleased to see them as I unraveled the plastic.

I’ll keep the quality and materials section of this post short and sweet as it’s important to know, but boring to read. The top portion of the outfit is made from a stretchy mesh. The bottom portion of the outfit consists of a blue, black and grey plaid combination and there’s also a tie attached to the upper half made from the same fabric. The glasses are made from a hard plastic. The outfit felt great quality and had no obvious flaws. The glasses were also surprisingly sturdy considering the fact that they’re a novelty extra.

I own a multitude of schoolgirl costumes but this one is the only ‘all in one’ type. Most of the ones that I own are a skirt and cropped shirt combo, whereas this one is more of a dress. It is a one size garment so I had concerns that it may not fit. It is said to accommodate a size six to sixteen and I wear a UK four. I did not mind taking the risk as Lovehoney have a wonderful no questions asked returns policy for any and all items that are not suitable. It fit me beautifully which leads me to believe that it would be tight-fitting on someone who wears a sixteen. It isn’t as stretchy as I thought it would be. If you wear fourteen or above then the plus size version might be more comfortable for you.

Dreamgirl Tartan Tease Schoolgirl CostumeThe shirt is very sheer. It doesn’t leave much to the imagination, but I suppose that’s the idea. I personally wear nipple pasties underneath to add some anticipation and not give everything up straight away. I find this has a better effect on my partner and teases him efficiently. It doesn’t provide any bust support whatsoever, which was fine for me as I have a basically non-existent bust and don’t need it. However, you could wear a nude or white bra underneath this if wanted or needed. It makes for a nice alternative to the pasties too.

It’s extremely short. Just skims past my butt and I’m only a mere five foot. If you’re taller than me (which lets face it wouldn’t be difficult or shocking) then this may show off a lot of cheek. If you’re around 5’11 or above then I suspect that this outfit will be more of a shirt on you and may not suit the designed aesthetic. It is a flowing style of skirt which skims the hips nicely and makes the wearer’s waist look smaller and their thighs slimmer. It doesn’t cling to the stomach or draw attention to the area at all which I thought it might due to the material. It’s incredibly flattering and super-duper sexy.

Dreamgirl Tartan Tease Schoolgirl CostumeIt fastens via a velcro strap around the neck so it’s quick to put on and tear off. This makes the fit adjustable along with the aid of the elastic band around the top. This is comfortable and pretty supportive. It doesn’t dig in and provides a decent amount of stretch to accommodate several sizes.

It doesn’t come with suspender straps but you could wear silicone banded hold-ups with or wear a flat suspender belt under the skirt and attach stockings that way. I opted for a slightly different option and wore suspender tights (crotchless of course) and some Pleaser heels.

Overall, I think this outfit is lovely. I’m fond of the colour scheme, the design and the fit. There wasn’t anything particularly wrong with it. I can still remember my partners reaction when I wore this for the first time and I can feel myself melting at the thought of those memories. His jaw dropped as I entered the bedroom and I couldn’t help but giggle. He managed to squeeze out a few words before fetching our favourite spanking tools and throwing me on the bed. Those words were “May I have a word with you miss? I believe you’re in three major violations of our dress code”. I never did find out what the third violation was…

Review: Fifty Shades Darker by Coco de Mer Anastasia Half Cup Bra

I probably could have ordered the entire Fifty Shades Darker lingerie line if funds had allowed, but as I’m not a millionaire, I decided to limit myself to just three of my favourite items. The Anastasia Half Cup Multiway Bra was one of them. It was the last item I purchased as I was going back and forth between this and something from the Escala collection for a while but I’m so glad that I finally settled on this piece. The Anastasia collection is described as “blending feminine shapes with deep pink satin and lace to offer a statement of modern femininity and intrinsic desirability” and I think that statement summarizes it perfectly.

I was disappointed and bored with the packaging, or lack of, that the Fifty Shades Darker lingerie arrives in. It’s just a plain plastic pouch. I expect this from Lovehoney as the lingerie is more budget friendly, but Coco de Mer are known for being lavish so I would expect more from them. I’m not asking for extreme levels of extravagance, but even just arriving on a nice satin hanger would have been better than this. If the boat can be pushed out for gorgeous packaging for the sex toy line, I don’t see why the lingerie line can’t also be gift-wrapped.

Fifty Shades Darker by Coco de Mer Anastasia Half Cup BraUntil this range landed at Lovehoney, I had never had the pleasure of trying lingerie designed by a Coco de Mer, because again, I’m not a millionaire. I can’t afford to be splashing out a couple of hundred pounds on a basque, robe or bra set. I’d rather buy three £40 options and have variety than just own a couple of nice pieces that I’d have to wear until death to get my money’s worth. The only exception to this will be the lingerie I wear for my honeymoon. That I will go all out for.

Getting back to this piece, I was expecting perfection and that’s precisely what I got. I couldn’t find any flaws with it whatsoever and it appeared to be made beautifully. It’s made up of two main materials, one being satin and the other being lace. Both felt divine to touch and I was particularly impressed with how comfortable they both were. Lace can sometimes be itchy or irritating, but this was not the case with this bra. It was soft and supple as one would hope for considering the price tag.

32B was the smallest size that I could get my hands on, and breasts into, so I went for that one. I usually wear a 30A so I hoped that sister sizing would be my friend on this occasion. It seemed to work out well as the Fifty Shades Darker lingerie all seems to run a bit small. The Anastasia Half Cup Bra has three hook-and-eye fastenings around the back and I wear this on the tightest setting. It fits pretty well. It doesn’t feel loose at all which makes me think that this would be incredibly skin-tight on someone who actually wears a 32.

Fifty Shades Darker by Coco de Mer Anastasia Half Cup BraAs for the cups, I was apprehensive. I am obviously lacking in the bust department so sizing up made me worry about things like obvious room left in the cups and gaping. Thankfully there wasn’t much of this. The cups actually seemed to fit very well. There was a tiny bit of room leftover, but not much, so I would suggest someone who wears a B cup to size up to the C in this particular bra. The cups definitely run small. This is great for small chests like mine as they seem to give a bit of a lift and a greatly appreciated boost.

Do I have any complaints? Outside of the packaging, not really. I could have done with being able to adjust the shoulder straps a tiny bit more for maximum comfort, but that’s a minor issue and something I can happily look past. The Anastasia Half Cup Bra is an absolutely stunning piece of lingerie and although I didn’t want to fork out on the matching briefs it wasn’t an issue as it matched a (now discontinued) raspberry Flirty Thong I have from Lovehoney. I  am not typically fond of pink especially when it comes to the bedroom as there’s so much of it in this industry, but I couldn’t resist this gorgeous rich shade. Combine this with the gorgeous front strapping and it’s an absolute winner. I love it.
