Review: System JO H20 Flavoured Lubricants

System JO Flavoured LubricantsI must admit, I wasn’t overly excited when I received a few of these System JO H20 Flavoured Lubricants free with some recent sex toy shopping. I mean, my partner and I like flavoured lubes, but we don’t like glycerin and parabens, which these lubricants all contain. I wasn’t particularly happy with these ingredients being included, but my partner insisted we tried them out seeing as we received them for free. If you want to find out if I loved or hated these lubricants then read on or simply jump to the quick review to find out the facts and decide for yourself!

I thought the packaging was nice enough, these small sample-sized bottles would be great to travel with. There’s a different colour scheme for every flavour and a small image of the product the flavour comes from on each bottle, which kind of gives away what type of product this is, so I wouldn’t be able to leave them lying around. Each bottle features a foil seal for protection and reassurance that it hasn’t been opened or tampered with prior to its arrival. The bottles are flip top style for easy dispensing and this causes less mess and waste.

I poured a small amount of the product onto my elbow crease before use, as there was no way I was putting this on either of our intimate areas without a patch test first. I am quite sensitive to glycerin, so I was very sceptical, even with no initial reaction to the products. I noticed straight away that the consistency wasn’t what we’d typically go for, as it’s quite thin. We like to use thicker lubricants, even for oral sex as they just seem to work better and last longer in our experience. These lubricants just seemed to be too watery for us.

Cherry Burst was the first flavour that we tried, as we wanted to get what we expected to be the worst out-of-the-way first. I must admit that neither of us are fans of things that are cherry scented or tasting. As we expected, this was the worst of the bunch. It has a very noticeable sweet cherry scent, it’s not quite overpowering, but it is somewhat artificial. As for the taste, I honestly think it tastes like cough medicine that I had as a child, which is not exactly sexy. We’d give this one a 1/10.

We then moved onto the Raspberry Sorbet, which is not a flavour often found with lubricants, so we were interested to see if it’s because it’s too hard to make it un-artificial. This one had quite a strong scent of raspberry, but it wasn’t overwhelming. It wasn’t a bad scent, but neither of us would say that it was pleasant either. My partner described the taste of this as being ‘exactly like it smells’ and it definitely wasn’t a taste he was rushing to try again to expand on. We’d give this one a 4/10.

Next, was the Tropical Passion which was the flavour my partner was most looking forward to. He really likes tropical flavoured things and I knew if he was going to like any of these, it would be this one. The scent is definitely tropical and my partner said it reminded him of a certain brand of sweets, although he couldn’t put his finger on which it was. It’s a pleasant scent though and one I wouldn’t mind bringing into the bedroom again. He said the taste was just like any tropical juice drink, with a slight Calpol aftertaste. This one he liked and would use again if it weren’t for the ingredients. He’d give it a 6/10.

Last but not least was Lemon Splash, one that we were both unsure of. We couldn’t decide whether a citrus lubricant was a good idea, but my partner likes lemon, so he was looking forward to it. He said that the scent is extremely scent and quite tangy, as you’d expect from something lemon flavoured. He describes the taste as ‘cheap lemonade’, which I think was a compliment as he said he’d also use this one again if it wasn’t for the ingredients. He’d give this one a 6/10.

Review: Yes Oil-Based Vanilla Lubricant

This is the first time that I’ve experienced an oil-based lubricant because most aren’t vagina friendly, but this one is, as it’s ph balanced, plant-based and free from glycerin. It is the only oil-based lubricant that I’ve ever considered using and after this experience, it’s probably the only oil-based lubricant I’ll ever try. My partner and I do not use condoms, at least not on a regular basis and they’re not for protection against pregnancy, so this lubricant was a safe choice for us, but if you require condoms then I’d stay away from this product as it’s not condom-friendly. If you want to find out if I loved or hated it, then read on or simply jump to the quick review to find out the facts.

Yes Oil Based Vanilla LubricantThe Yes Oil-Based Vanilla Lubricant arrives in sleek cardboard packaging, with no huge fonts dictating the product function, so it could be left out without causing any fuss. The tube is just as discreet as the outer packaging and could easily be mistaken as a moisturizer or hand lotion. It features a safety seal around the cap for reassurance that it hasn’t been opened or tampered with. To dispense this product, you simply flip the cap and squeeze the tube. It doesn’t come out too quickly, get messy or cause waste due to the consistency.

Fresh from the tube, the Yes Lubricant is primarily white in appearance, although I did notice a slight yellowish tint to the colouring in natural lighting. I thought it looked bubbly and greasy, resembling butter icing almost, but slightly thinner. I wasn’t impressed by the appearance, but I wanted to give the lubricant a chance so I proceeded to do a patch test. My partner and I both have sensitive skin, so I always apply a small amount to our elbows before we use it on our intimate areas. I didn’t think we’d have a reaction to this as it’s one of the most organic lubricants in existence and I was right, as neither of us came up in a rash or developed itchiness. I wasn’t fond on the texture at this point though and when I went to scrub it off, I felt a slight greasy residue left over which needed a second trip to the bathroom to remove.

I did like the scent that hit me as I applied the product to our skin though, I could definitely pick up on the wonderful scent of vanilla, which is the main reason why I chose this product in the first place. My partner had a taste of it and although he said it didn’t taste bad, the texture was off-putting, so he wouldn’t use this for oral sex. He describes the taste as starting as subtle vanilla, ending in utterly buttely. The oil doesn’t grease up in the mouth to the point of it being unusable for that purpose, but your face (and/or) hands will get covered in the stuff during the act, so we’ll be sticking with flavoured water-based products.

We then decided to try it for penetrative sex, where the consistency improved as the product was rubbed into the skin, actually becoming quite slick. It reduced any friction and discomfort that I may have felt without it, making sex really comfortable, but my partner couldn’t get over the texture of it. He is fussy regarding texture and he plainly said that this was just too greasy for his tastes. After our session had finished, I began feeling the same sticky aftermath as I did with the patch test and I think this is off-putting. I had expected some stick with it being oil-based, but for me, it’s just too much. I like to be able to sleep after sex, but I can’t if I use this as I feel the need for a long shower.

Yes Oil Based Vanilla LubricantOverall, I think we’ve come to the conclusion that oil-based lubricants just aren’t for us. I would rather go for a thick water-based lubricant or a high quality silicone such as Sliquid Silver. I couldn’t get past the greasy after-feel and my partner just wasn’t happy with the texture or the appearance of this product. It is fit for purpose as a lubricant and does the job, but it’s not a product that we’ll be purchasing again.
