Review: Icicles No #55 Textured Glass Dildo

Glass dildos are one of the main loves of my intimate life, with my fondness of temperature play being the main reason as to why these particular products grab my interest so much. Pipedream’s Icicles range is one of the most affordable and accessible around and as many retailers stock a selection of these toys, I get asked about this range fairly often. I’ve tried a handful of items from this range now and have had pleasant experiences each time so I was more than happy to accept the Icicles No #55 for review this month for Too Timid. This aesthetically pleasing double-ended dildo looked incredibly enticing with its tale of two textures and as I have made it my mission to try more insertable toys during 2018, I couldn’t wait to give it a test run.

Icicles No 55 Glass DildoMany of Pipedream’s ranges leave little to the imagination in terms of packaging and sometimes even borders onto misogynistic or unethical graphics/text, but their Icicles line is an exception. The front of the box showcases an image of the product and pulls open to reveal the No #55 behind a window of plastic.

It is classy, simplistic and exactly how I like it. I do find it disappointing that none of the toys in this collection come with storage bags as I like to protect my glass pieces to avoid scratches or chipping but this is personal preference and something of a minor complaint. I would recommend having some storage on hand to keep this dildo in if you’re planning to make a purchase though.

The box mentions some care instructions inside but as I’ve mentioned in every Icicles review I’ve ever written, parts of the text need to be updated. It advises and advocates using microwaves and freezers to change the temperature of the glass but I would strongly advise against doing either. Microwaves can create unwanted heat spots that aren’t noticeable until they burn your nether regions and freezers can recreate that dreaded stuck to a metal pole scenario that we’ve all seen in films. I imagine that it would feel rather unpleasant to experience a toy getting stuck to a sensitive orifice so please stick to the safe, trusted methods of changing the temperature such as the fridge or bowl of warm/cold water.

Icicles No 55 Glass DildoOne of the best things about glass is that it can be used with any type of lubricant. The surface is non-toxic, non-porous, odourless, phthalate free and suitable for use with water bases, silicone bases and even oil bases. This body safe rigid material can also can be cleaned thoroughly by boiling for a few moments or placing in the top rack of the dishwasher.

If you are switching between multiple partners, partners that aren’t fluid bonded or different orifices (particularly going from anal to vaginal) then I would recommend one of the above methods to keep things hygienic and prevent passing infections. For daily cleans, soap and warm water will do the trick and an old toothbrush can be used around the textured areas to remove any traces of fluids.

Icicles No 55 Glass DildoThe Icicles No #55 should be suitable for most users regardless of their experience with insertables. It has an overall length of around 7.5 inches and a maximum usable length of 6 inches. I’m very comfortable using dildos with this amount of length as they don’t hit my cervix if I’m relaxed and well lubricated but will still be able to reach all of the sensitive spots that I want stimulated. The No #55 has a maximum circumference of four inches which is fairly slim and manageable for toy beginners and people who may be new to hard materials like glass.

One side of the No #55 resembles another Icicles piece that I reviewed recently, the #5. Those three inches of shaft are basically made up of a spiral of raised ripples. This spiralled texture feels the same on both dildos although the curve belonging to the #55 is more pronounced and the tip more tapered which makes it easier for it to hit my sweet spots right off the bat. It finds my g-spot with no trouble and as it’s safe for anal use, I imagine it would be capable of doing the same thing with a prostate. My partner is only at the stage of using a small plug or finger so we haven’t tested this theory but from our experiences so far, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work as a prostate massager too.

The combination of chilled glass, a rigid surface and bumps/ridges has always worked well for me and this dildo wasn’t going to be the exception. If I insert it carefully then use a gentle twisting motion or work it around in a slow rotation then the ripples stimulate every internal erogenous zone that they can find. This alone would probably be enough to bring me to the edge of an orgasm but the curvature of the shaft tips the scales and makes that climax stronger. I think this type of texture was well spread out and not overly intense so it shouldn’t overwhelm a newcomer. However, it’s not bland enough to bore the more experienced player either.

Icicles No 55 Glass DildoEver wanted to get two toys for the price of one? Then look no further than the #55 and it’s double ends that differ in texture. We’ve covered the spiralled side already but what about the noduled side? It has raised nodules, equally spread across its three inches of shaft that have been rounded for comfortable insertion.

I think this side is perfect for internal massages and relaxing masturbation sessions as well as g-spot or prostate stimulation. It has the same pointed tip and curve below the head which makes it just as great for this kind of contact as the spiralled side. You can simply choose which type of texture feels best for you or switch things up based on mood and cravings.

Icicles No 55 Glass DildoOverall, I think the No #55 has the potential to be perfect for people who like slim, short and noticeably textured toys that aren’t going to overwhelm the body or overstimulate. I have had great orgasms with it through my testing sessions and play with my partner so I’d happily recommend it to those who like the features I mentioned above. A final tip for fans of the noduled side – try it as an external stimulator by moving it across the clitoris as this seemed to instantly increase my arousal.

Review: Icicles No #5 Spiral Glass Dildo

Finding sex toy retailers that stock the best of the best and nothing less is challenging but recently I came across one that does just that. Crimson Princess are a new online store based in England that want to provide a comfortable online shopping experience for people who may find going into brick and mortar shops embarrassing or daunting. Their website is aesthetically pleasing, easy to browse and filled with toys, lingerie and bondage gear from top-rated brands. We have recently begun a collaboration and to kick-start this I was sent a gorgeous piece of glass. I picked out the Icicles No #5 for its delightful spiral texture and bulbous head as I thought it may be fun for G-spot sessions and might make a nice introduction to texture for glass newcomers.

Icicles No #5 Glass DildoMany of Pipedream’s ranges have unethical/misogynistic packaging but the Icicles range is an exception. The front of the box showcases an image of the product and pulls open to reveal the No #5 behind a window of plastic. It’s classy but simple and I like it. I do find it somewhat disappointing that this range doesn’t include storage bags as I like to store glass separately to prevent scratches or chipping but this is a minor complaint and more of a personal preference than a negative point. I would recommend having something on hand to secure the dildo if planning to purchase it though.

The box mentions some care instructions inside but I’ve mentioned in every Icicles review I’ve ever written that parts of this needs to be updated. It advocates using microwaves and freezers to change the temperature of the material but I strongly advise against doing this. Microwaves can create heat spots that aren’t noticeable until the burn comes and freezers can cause that tongue stuck to a metal pole scenario that we’ve all seen in movies, but instead of your tongue being stuck, it’s your nether regions, and I imagine that would be rather unpleasant to experience. Please stick to the safe methods for experimenting with temperature such as the fridge or a bucket of warm/cold water.

One of the best things about glass is that it can be used with any type of lubricant. The surface is non-porous, non-toxic, odourless, phthalate free and suitable for use with water bases, silicone bases and even oil bases. This body safe material can also be cleaned thoroughly by boiling for a few moments or placing inside the top rack of the dishwasher. If you are switching between orifices (particularly going from anal to vaginal) or multiple partners then I would definitely recommend one of the above options for safety. For daily cleans, soap and water will do the trick and an old toothbrush can be used around the textured areas to remove any lingering fluids.

The Icicles No #5 should be suitable for people with some penetration experience. It has an overall length of 7.25 inches and a maximum insertable length of 6.75 inches. For me personally, I’m quite comfortable using six to seven inches so this was the perfect length for me to feel comfortable during vaginal use. It doesn’t hit my cervix providing I’m relaxed and well-lubricated but it does hit the sensitive spots that are located near there. Width wise, the No #5 has a maximum circumference of four inches which is rather slimline. The texture does make it feel slightly larger so keep that in mind but generally I think it will be suitable for most people who can handle three fingers.

Icicles No #5 Glass DildoI was reminded of an earlier reviewing experience when I used the No #5 for the first time. One of the first products I ever reviewed on this blog a couple of years ago was the Kinx Rippled Teaser. It has a similar colour scheme to the No #5 and a swirled texture around the shaft that’s also reminiscent. The spiral texture is equally spread out across the shaft across the Icicles model whereas the Kinx is quite close together and intense. For that reason alone, the Icicles would win in a contest that was best suited for newcomers and beginners.

Less texture doesn’t mean less sensation or satisfaction though. Now don’t get me wrong, I love texture, but sometimes it’s not quite right for me and that’s usually the case when it’s paired with a toy that has a tip that’s been tapered too much. Again, I’ll go back to the Kinx as it’s head tapers to such a sharp point that it felt like I was being stabbed with each thrust. However the Icicles No #5 has a gentle taper to its bulbous head that’s comfortable to insert, thrust against internal sweet spots and remove. It also has a rounded base which makes for great grip and works wonderfully as a handle.

Each time I use the No #5 I fall in love with it a little more. The texture is delightful. It’s basically a spiral of raised ripples that work their way down the sleek shaft and provide maximum stimulation to the vaginal walls. It’s not the most textured glass piece that I own but there’s enough of it that it does what it’s designed to do. I’ve always found the combination of a cold, rigid surface and bumps/lines/ridges to work particularly well for me and this was no exception. If I use a gentle twisting motion whilst the toy is inserted, the ripples stimulate every internal erogenous zone that they can reach. This alone may have been enough to bring me to the brink of an orgasm but the curvature of the shaft just tips the scales and takes me over the edge.

Icicles No #5 Glass DildoIt’s a subtle curve with little definition but it sends the bulb and the texture that follows towards the direction of one of my favourite stimulation zones, the G-spot. The tip finds the spot with ease and minimal thrusting will provide all of the pressure this area needs to be stimulated to the point of no return.

I have had some fantastic internal orgasms with this dildo and some brilliant blended orgasms when I’ve added a clitoral vibrator into the mix. Vaginal play has been my primary source of use for this dildo but I have tried it out a handful of times for anal too. I did enjoy the few occasions I experimented with it like this but I feel that it would be better suited to anal players looking to achieve prostate stimulation.

Overall, I think I could recommend the Icicles No #5 to glass beginners who are looking to explore or discover their G-spot and/or prostate. For those with more sex toy experience, I’d also be able to recommend it to you if you are a fan of slimmer insertables, temperature play, rigid materials and texture. If I had to list a few downsides, I’d have some trouble as there wasn’t anything I hated but there are a couple of minor niggles that I could point out. The first is the lack of storage and the second is the potentially unsafe information listed on the inside of the packaging. Outside of those things, I can’t really complain as my experiences were positive and pleasurable for both me and my partner.

Review: Joyride Textured Devil Tongue Glass Dildo

Joyride Devil Tongue Glass DildoI’m a texture slut who happens to have a passion for glass, so the combination of these two things always starts a pretty crazy party in my pants. I mentioned in my recent review of the Icicles 24 that I seem to be drawn to these tentacle looking toys at the moment and this one definitely fit the bill. It’s not quite a tentacle, but the shape and texture are pretty similar to the others I’ve been loving recently. It seems that the party news spread fast as Lovehoney decided to send a guest my way, in the form of this Devil’s Tongue.

It arrived in a classy white box with a cut-out window in the front to view the toy. It has multilingual use and care instructions on the back along with a small sticker that indicates the product dimensions. It’s fairly simplistic in design but it’s nice enough. Inside, the toy was housed within a foam tray alongside a grey velvet storage pouch, which was an appreciated extra.

Joyride Devil Tongue Glass DildoWhen I removed the dildo from the box, I had to take a few minutes to admire the aesthetics. It really is beautiful. I knew it was going to be from the online product photos I saw, but it’s even better in the flesh. It’s hard to tell from images how striking this thing really is, but once you get it under the light the maroon swirls in the material become truly evident. Its glorious textured surface sparkles and glistens as the light catches it, which in my opinion, adds to the beauty and makes it look more expensive than it is.

It’s made from an incredibly robust borosilicate glass and it feels grand. I have encountered a couple of cheap feeling glass toys upon my sex toy journey, but this is definitely not one of them. It feels high-quality, sturdy and the hand-crafting has been done to perfection. I could find no flaws with the design, appearance or its gorgeous ribbed finish. The only negative thing about something as textured as this is that it can be a pain to clean. Luckily, it can be sanitized in the top rack of a dishwasher as often as necessary to remove any harbouring lint or fluids. For everyday cleaning, soapy water and an old toothbrush does the trick.

I love glass for two major reasons. The first is that any type of lubricant can be used with them without interfering with or degrading the material. I generally prefer to use something slick and silicone-based as I think it glides better than something water-based, but it’s nice to have options. The second thing is temperature play; which is something that I treasure. Glass can be cooled down or warmed up for added sensation. I like to chill mine before use by placing it in the fridge for ten to twenty minutes, but it can also be placed in a bowl of warm/cold water to change the temperature.

Joyride Devil Tongue Glass DildoIn terms of size, I think the dimensions are perfect. It has roughly 3.3 inches of girth around the tapered tip, which should be manageable for most people, and this goes up to around 4.7 inches at the widest portion of the insertable shaft. As for the length, there’s eight inches total and six and a half are insertable. This is just about right for me. It’s not so short that it can’t hit the right spots, but it’s not long enough to be jamming into my cervix as I manoeuvre it. The remaining length makes up the curved finger loop at the base which makes movement feel comfortable, controlled and effortless.

I had some reservations about this toy prior to using it, mostly revolving around the pointed tip. I was unsure whether it would be would be comfortable during insertion and use, but it’s actually reassuringly smooth and slid inside with no problems. I was also unsure of whether it would be wide enough to stimulate my g-spot or not, as I generally prefer a wider surface area for this job, but this seems to be one of the exceptions.

It found my g-spot with little to no effort required on my part and the firm pressure it placed upon it told me that I would have no issues from this point onwards. It sort of hugged my g-spot softly at first, but this would soon change as I switched up my actions. For example, if I used it with a thrusting motion then the textured bumps begin massaging the vaginal walls and my entrance whilst the tapered tip worked on my g-spot. It lead to a slow but intense orgasm. If I opted for a rocking movement, the tip rested firmly in position which caused a much faster climax.

Joyride Devil Tongue Glass DildoI also tried twisting the toy around onto its side as I felt this might give the tip better access to my g-spot and really allowed the texture to work its magic on my vaginal walls. I seemed to orgasm pretty damn quickly with this method. The best method for me though was clenching around it as I inserted the widest part of the shaft inside. I could feel it trying to push its way back out of my body as I orgasmed from the forceful pressure which was placed upon my g-spot. It was divine.

Overall, it seems that it doesn’t matter how I use this toy, whether I want to thrust it, rock it, twist it or clench it, it all just feels good. As a result, it has very quickly forced its way into my favourites. I was expecting this toy to be a pleasant experience but the bumps, grooves and curves are far better than I could have ever anticipated and are dangerously susceptible to my sensitivities. I really enjoy it and if s-shaped, textured glass appeals to you, then I think you will enjoy it too.

You can no longer purchase the Joyride Textured Devil’s Tongue (£44.99) from Lovehoney as it has since be discontinued. I will update with new links if/when I find a new stockist.

Review: Icicles #24 Tentacle Glass Dildo

I’ll start this review by stating that I’m not a big fan of Pipedream for ethical reasons, problematic marketing and the amount of toxic/porous products they produce, but affordable glass options seem to be quite hard to come by outside of this line. It’s stocked by most of the big retailers and is often people’s introduction to glass, so I have made an exception for this particular product and the number #8 I reviewed previously. It’s the line I would recommend if there’s nothing else available in your area, but I’d advise trying to source other options first. Regardless of how I feel about them as a company, I have to admit that the variety in the Icicles range is pretty good. It has a toy for every mood, occasion and level of experience, with the number #24 being suitable for intermediate players who enjoy texture.

Icicles 24It arrived in simplistic packaging and It’s pretty classy considering. The front of the box shows off an image of the product and actually pulls open to reveal it behind a window of plastic, display case style. Upon opening the box, I found the #24 protected within a layer of foam casing. I find it a little disappointing that this range doesn’t include storage bags, especially since the prices have been put up. I’ve got cheaper dildos from Lovehoney that included bags, so it’s a bit of a letdown that these don’t.

The box features some care instructions inside, but I strongly disagree with a section of them that advocates using microwaves and freezers to change the temperature. I would strongly advise against doing this. Microwaves can create heat spots and freezers could cause that tongue stuck to a metal pole scenario we’ve all seen in movies, but with your nether regions, which I’m sure would not be pleasant. Please stick to safe methods such as the fridge or a bowl of warm/cold water to change temperatures.

Icicles 24When I held the number #24 for the first time, I was mesmerised. I would describe this toy as being incredibly pretty, despite the colour. I know I complain about the overuse of pink all the time in this industry but I’m a huge fan of coloured glass and don’t mind pink so much when it’s combined with this material. It’s more of a soft baby pink too, which makes a change from all the generic Barbie shades that seem to dominate the market.

As for the shape and texture, it’s a style I seem to be drawn to a lot over the past few months. I don’t know if I have a secret love for Hentai that even I don’t know about yet or whether it’s just a great combination, but I find these toys so enjoyable to look at and experiment with. This particular tentacle is hand-crafted and I couldn’t find any flaws with its gorgeous design or ribbed finish. It’s pretty good quality and I think it will last a long time with proper care.

So, how do you give it proper care? Well, you can use it with any type of lubricant that you wish as there are no worries of material degradation here and then place it in the top rack of the dishwasher after use for a thorough clean. I would definitely recommend this option if you’re switching between orifices or partners (or both!) or you use this on a regular basis. I use soap and water (with an old toothbrush to remove any harbouring fluids from the nodules) for every day cleans and opt for the dishwasher option once or month or so for a more in-depth wash.

Icicles 24

It has four and a half inches of girth, which is manageable for most people, but keep in mind that glass toys tend to feel larger than they are due to the firmness of material and this also has tons of texture to contend with. As for the length it has six inches in total with four and a half inches being insertable. This might not sound like it has much to offer, but this is more than enough length to hit the g-spot. The remaining length makes up the curved finger loop at the base which makes movement feel effortless, calm and controlled.

If asked how it feels, I’d answer “delightful.” The nodules are more pronounced than those on most of my other glass pieces so I tend to use this toy quite slowly, with a good coating of Slick Lubricant. The pronounced bumps can actually be a little painful if I’m aimlessly thrusting as fast as possible, so slow back and forth/rocking motions seem to work best. Not only does this feel more comfortable, but it also allows me to really sit back and enjoy the texture.

During the first few movements it feels as though the tapered tip is gently caressing my g-spot, but the pressure quickly begins to build up as the added stimulation of the texture massaging my vaginal walls and leaning up against my entrance becomes more prevalent. I find this to be a lethal combination and it almost always ensures a successful, intense climax. It’s even better if I add a clitoral vibrator into the mix.

Icicles 24

Overall, I think this is probably the best of the two dildos I tried from the Icicles range. Its gorgeous s-shape and easy to use handle make it really easy for me to find the right spots to hit and the firm, noduled texture pretty much does the rest. It has been a great toy for me to use on lazy masturbation days, providing there’s enough lube on hand, and I’d definitely recommend it to fans of texture.
