Review: LoveDrop Subscription Box

In my time as a sex blogger and product reviewer, I’ve tried a handful of sexy subscription boxes and seen several others come and go. Most of the boxes that I’ve come across so far have been disappointing and many of the companies were obviously creating the boxes for the wrong reasons. It’s no secret that sex toys and bondage products are in high demand at the moment and this can bring people onto the scene who are hoping to make quick and easy cash. These people unfortunately don’t care about the safety or quality of the products they’re releasing which leads to subscription services being filled with porous/toxic junk and crappy filler items. It was immediately apparent to me that LoveDrop were not one of these companies as their site contained pictures and descriptions of high-quality, luxury sex products and body-safe materials.

After noticing the splashes of silicone, I reached out to the owners to find out more. This lovely husband and wife team told me that they came up with the idea of this service when they realised how important date nights were in a long-term relationship and how crucial it is to invest in some quality time together. We talked about society focusing so much on the early stages of the relationship that people let life get in the way of the long-term. For example, a duo that become so comfortable with each other that they settle into a habitual routine of Netflix and actual chill where the intimacy starts to take a backseat. LoveDrop want to make a difference in these scenarios and prevent couples from getting stuck in a cycle of sex that’s so predictable it stops being fun.

So, how does it work? LoveDrop hand-pick exciting adult toys, gifts, sexy games and romantic activities for a couple to explore in a ‘date night’ box that’s delivered bi-monthly. My partner and I would love to plan regular date nights ourselves but often get distracted by our day-to-day duties and obligations and know this is the case for lots of other couples too. LoveDrop take out all of the stress of arranging an intimate night in by dispatching a box of treats every other month that’s all ready to go when an opportunity strikes. It costs £45 per box, which is fantastic when you consider the fact that the total cost of the contents of my first box doubled this.

When the plain package arrived, I was greeted with a simple cardboard box with LoveDrop’s branding on the front and ‘we promise to try whatever arrives’ printed on the opening flap. Inside, I found a welcome to LoveDrop card that thanks you for purchasing the box and a booklet that features a list of the included items alongside some fun date and challenge ideas, a couple of interesting sexual facts and a position of the month. This is the only aspect of the box that’s not couple-neutral as I would say the contents are also suitable for couples that have two clits.

LoveDrop Subscription Box December 2017The first item I found amongst the wrapping was the main feature of the box. The designer sex toy. I could see a glimpse of packaging that was familiar and I was impressed to find a luxury clitoral vibrator inside that I did not already own. I have a substantial collection so it wouldn’t be shocking for me to receive a duplicate but the original Lelo Nea was something I hadn’t tried.

It’s burgundy in colour with silver patterns and is a plastic pebble-shaped vibe that nestles against the clitoris to provide stimulation. It’s rechargeable with a good battery life, easy to operate and suitable for use against different anatomies. The noise levels are very low too which is a bonus for student couples or those with kids.

LoveDrop Subscription Box December 2017The Lelo Nea is not as powerful as the Nea 2 but my partner and I still liked it. It has a decent amount of strength to its constant vibration modes and was able to make both of us orgasm. It can be used during masturbation, oral sex or penetrative sex as it’s small enough to hold between bodies.

My partner said that this version was better for him than the second as it has buzzier vibrations and that’s the type that he prefers. I’m more of a rumbles fan so that works out well. He gets a new toy to spice up his masturbation or blowjob sessions and I get my old favourite back. The Nea was a fantastic start to the LoveDrop experience for us and it was so refreshing to see a subscription service pick something like this over a cheap pocket rocket made from unsafe materials.

Next to be pulled out of the box was some samples. These were also from Lelo and consisted of two packets of their water-based personal lubricant and two Hex condoms. We have used this lubricant before as a sachet is usually included with their sex toys and it’s not bad. It isn’t our favourite but it’s safe to use with sex toys of any material and suitable for most sexual activities. Ingredients wise it’s free from parabens and glycerin, which is good, but does contain propylene glycol which can be problematic and irritating for some genitals. It doesn’t irritate me or my partner or dry up too quickly so these sachets are good to have on hand for on the go use. Sachets like this are the perfect way to try new lubricants before forking out on a bottle so I like that these were included.

LoveDrop Subscription Box December 2017Hex condoms are one of the only things that I didn’t love about this box and that’s because of the controversy that surrounds them and the related ethical issues. Lots of my fellow sex bloggers wrote posts about those issues so I won’t go into much detail but I will outline the basics so people can decide for themselves whether they feel comfortable using them.

The first problem was this video posted on social media. I was alarmed when I first saw the hole made in the Hex at the one minute mark and I’m still on the fence about the safety of these condoms. The second problem was the spokesperson Lelo chose to market the Hex, Charlie Sheen. He’s well known for having unprotected sex with multiple partners without disclosing his HIV status as-well as having numerous domestic abuse claims, which doesn’t line up with the loving, intimate, honest approach of LoveDrop.

LoveDrop Subscription Box December 2017A product I’d never seen before came next, the Melt co ‘Joy’ Candle. According to the booklet, each candle is handmade in Lancashire and lasts for 22 hours. LoveDrop describe the scent as a ‘sparkling citrus floral on a complex but soft woody and musk base over a rich heart of rose, lily and iris’. I’m no scent connoisseur but I can tell you that it smells absolutely gorgeous. It strikes the perfect balance between barely noticeable and overpowering, creating a relaxing environment as the aroma carries itself around the room.

LoveDrop Subscription Box December 2017The last two items in the box consisted of a bar of Fairtrade chocolate that my partner devoured within minutes and a pack of clearly printed prompt cards. There are eight cards total and each one displays a different sexy activity for the duo to try together. I’ve included a picture of one of these cards as an example but I’m keeping the other seven to myself as we haven’t used all of them yet. We decided to spread them out over several weeks in alternation with some of the date and challenges mentioned earlier.

Overall, my partner and I were very pleased with the LoveDrop Subscription Box. In the past I’ve noticed that subscription services are aimed at complete beginners or those who have a couple of items and want to build their collection but this box is fairly inclusive. In my opinion, a wide range of couples with varying levels of experience with sexual products could enjoy this box and as it’s affordable, easy to order and created by people who are doing it for the right reasons, I would be happy to recommend it.

Review: Roomantics Subscription Box

I have found that many of these adult subscription boxes are aimed at either complete beginners to sex toys or those who have a few but want to expand their collection, which makes it difficult for people with larger collections to get any use from them. Those of us who fall in that category, particularly reviewers, have tried many of the popular toys that these boxes tend to include so wouldn’t usually purchase one ourselves. Having said that, there was nothing in this particular box that I had tried yet, which was a good start.

Before I get to my review, I think it’s important that I mention that I specified body-safe items only in my box for review, as I noticed there were a few unsafe products on their site. I personally believe that body-safe toys, especially insertables, should be a given in a box like this, to promote safe sex toy use to beginners from the outset. I understand that this isn’t the cheapest option, especially for a new company, but it’s a worthwhile option if it means we can protect our bodies from dangerous chemicals and toxins.

I was pleased with the quick dispatch and fast delivery, receiving the Roomantics Box in discreet outer packaging as promised. There were no signs that this packaged contained items of a sexual nature. I opened up the outer packaging and discovered a blue cardboard box with the brand name on the front and the OVO F7 sitting in the box beside it. It would have been nice if everything had fit inside the box, so if there’s going to be bigger items like this in the future, I’d advise increasing the box size that month.

There was no information guide or list of items included with my box, but according to their website, this is usually the case. I would have liked the box to come as a paying customer would receive it, but as this was a tester, I expect I received a sample version. I would have also liked some packing paper or something inside the box to fill it out a little more and make everything look better presented.

Sex in The Shower Vibrating Mesh Sponge (£11.99)

The first thing I noticed in this box was this vibrating mesh sponge, which definitely falls under the joke/novelty category, rather than being a functional product. It isn’t the best quality and just seems like a cheap filler with no real purpose. It feels and looks inexpensive, which cheapens the feel of the rest of the box. It’s powered by watch batteries, so it’s fairly weak anyway, without the sponge softening the vibrations to the point of not being able to notice them at all. I was not impressed with this item.

ID Glide Natural Feel Lubricant 30ml (£3.85)

I’d never tried this lubricant before, but have heard mixed things about this brand from friends, so was looking forward to seeing how it worked for me. Sadly, this lubricant contains Glycerine, Propylene Glycol and one form of Paraben, so won’t be suitable for those who avoid those ingredients or are prone to UTI’s. This lubricant is what I’d class as medium consistency, somewhere in-between thick and thin, managing to not be runny, but not as thick as I’d like. It has no distinctive odour and is fit for purpose, but dries out quickly and becomes sticky and tacky feeling, which isn’t pleasant.

OVO F7 (£20)

The OVO F7 is made from 100% body-safe materials, has a fifteen year warranty and is showerproof, which gets some bonus points from me. It’s powered by two AAA’s (which roomantics included) so I wasn’t expecting much. I often find that battery operated toys aren’t strong enough for me anymore, but I was pleasantly surprised with the vibrations that the F7 had to offer. It’s not the strongest tool in the box, but it is powerful when you consider its battery size. It’s pretty quiet and has a nice shape, with a non-intimating look and feel to it, so I think this would be an ideal toy for those who are new to toys or need discretion.

Blush Novelties My Little Heaven ($17/£11)

I’m actually really pleased that this was included in my box, as I’ve been after the My Little Heaven for a while now. The unique shape had intrigued me for months and I couldn’t wait to try it out. This stimulator is designed to target the G-Spot, which I can’t deny it does, but for me, it was slightly too soft and flexible, so I couldn’t get my desired amount of pressure from it. Those with a more sensitive or reactive G-Spot would probably get on best with this toy, but I have to say I do still find it enjoyable. This toy would be great for those new to insertable toys or who are new to G-Spot stimulation, due to the soft silicone (that has minimal drag) and petite size. It has a maximum circumference of 3.35 inches and 5 insertable inches of length, which should be manageable for most.

Overall, there are a few things that could be done to improve the box, such as making body-safe products an essential, making sure all the products fit in the box, with some nice packing materials and a welcome sheet/list of included items with prices provided. I would also drop the novelty sponge and include a better quality lube in future boxes. The two included toys however, were great additions to the box and I’d be happy to recommend either of them, even if they weren’t perfect for me. I found all of the included products at their cheapest available price to determine worth and found the box still totalled above £45, which is a pretty good deal.

I received this box from Roomantics in exchange for my review. Thank you! Unfortunately, this company appears to no longer be in business and their website has now been removed.

Review: Dewcibox Subscription Box

I feel like these boxes are mostly aimed at those who are new to adult products or just want a sexy treat every once in a while, making it difficult for those with larger collections to get any use from them. It’s highly likely those with bigger collections, especially reviewers, will have tried or owned most items in the box at some point, so it’s not really worth the purchase. Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised by the Dewcibox, as I’d only tried one out of 5 adult products in the box.

I was pleased with the quick dispatch and fast delivery, receiving the Dewcibox in discreet outer packaging as promised. There were no signs that this packaged contained items of a sexual nature. I opened up the plain cardboard box and discovered a beautiful, black storage box with the brand name on the front. Inside the box, I found a welcome card and a full list of all the items inside the box, with most listing the prices next to them, making my job much easier!

Lovehoney Magic Bullet 10 Function Vibrator (£12.99)

I was really pleased to find this lovely Lovehoney addition to the box, as you all know they’re one of my favourite companies. The Magic Bullet is powered by one AAA battery (not included), so it isn’t the strongest vibrator available, but it’s perfect for beginners or those who don’t need much power to get off. I personally do need more power, but this would have been a great toy for me when I was starting out. It’s non-intimidating, easy to use and couple friendly, but definitely on the buzzy end of the spectrum as I expected. It has a pointed tip which can provide pin-point stimulation, even with pressure applied, and my partner seems to really enjoy it. I think he’ll end up using it regularly.

Ayumi Sensual Massage, Bath & Body Oil 250ml (£9.99)

I had never heard of this brand before, so I was interested to see what this product would be like. It’s enriched with Ylang Ylang, Cedarwood, Sandalwood & Calendula and it smells absolutely divine. I could definitely pick up on the Sandalwood, which just so happens to be one of my favourite scents. It has directions for all three uses on the back of the bottle and after trying them all, we think it works best for massage. It is quite runny, but still has a nice texture and absorbs really well. It feels lovely and soothing when massaged into the skin and leaves it feeling refreshed, rather than sticky. It doesn’t irritate sensitive skin, which is a bonus, and for further points, it’s cruelty-free and vegetarian friendly. We would use this again.

Playboy Condoms: 2 Premium Latex Condoms (12 pack costs £5.99)

We have no need to use condoms regularly, but always like to keep some on hand just incase there’s an emergency situation. It’s a nice addition to promote safe-sex, but not everyone uses condoms or likes to differ from their preferred brand, so it’s not an item everybody will be able to make use of. An option to have non-latex condoms in the box may be useful as there are some people will need latex-free options. I was pleased to find they were well in-date and nicely lubricated. They were fit for purpose and we had no problems such as splitting or discomfort.

Zuyosa Sexual Vitality Supplement For Men 4 Pack (£19.99)

I was shocked to find this was the most expensive item in the box as personally I think the most expensive item should have been the toy. I think putting a product like this in a subscription box is an expensive risk, as not everybody will be able to use products like this one, due to medications or medical conditions. My partner luckily can take this supplement and he decided to give it a go. He was nervous as he’d never tried anything like this before. He doesn’t really need to last any longer, so it’s something we won’t use again, but it was definitely an experience! It was like we were back in the early stages of our relationship again as he couldn’t keep his hands to himself. Worth buying separately if you’re looking for this kind of thing.

Funkin: Mojito Mixer and Milk Chocolate Hearts (No price given)

For medical and personal reasons, I cannot use edible/drinkable items, but I have a willing partner and best friend who were more than happy to devour the chocolate hearts and make some mojitos. I think the fact that the chocolate was gone in less than a minute after taking the photos, proves that they enjoyed that addition to the box! The mixer is not something I’d have thought about putting in a subscription box, but for those who can drink, I think it works. It’s really easy to make, just add some rum and ice, and you’re all set. They went down quickly, so I think the mojitos were also a welcome addition for my willing helpers.

Licx Mix For Her 6 Sachets (£5.99)

I love Licx products, so I was happy to see this mix included in the box. I have recently reviewed both the Gel and Deluxe Cream Lubricants, so you can click the links and read through if you want to find out more. I’m also going to be reviewing the Arousal Gels in depth soon, so I won’t say too much, but they are fit for purpose and I will be getting more of them! I hadn’t tried the intimate wipes, so was pleased to finish my Licx collection. They are perfect for freshening up and very handy to have in your bag!

Overall, the Dewcibox is definitely worth the money. There’s just under £50 worth of products (not including the condoms or edibles) and this box only costs £25, so you’re getting a fantastic deal. There are couple of minor improvements that could be made, such as making the main focus of the box the toy, not the expensive extras and avoiding products that eliminate whole groups of people such as supplements. I do like that the toy provided was body-safe and they are promoting safe-sex with condoms, so I hope this continues with future boxes.

You can sign up for a monthly subscription with Dewcibox, which costs £25 per month. I received April’s box free of charge in exchange for my honest review. Thank you!

Review: Scarlet Rouge (Hot and Cold) Subscription Box

I was browsing Twitter recently and noticed lots of whispers about “adult” subscription boxes. There seemed to be quite a few appearing on my news feed, most of which appeared to be aimed at beginners. I did like the idea of a box of sexy treats turning up at my door, so I went on the hunt for a box that would hopefully leave me wanting to subscribe.

It proved to be a challenge to find a box that didn’t contain toxic toys and cheap filler items, but I eventually found a few boxes that looked like they might be worth a try. I was immediately drawn to the company ScarletRouge after browsing their site, as I could tell they put a lot of effort into their boxes and aim to provide their customers with only the best products.

A few days later, their Hot and Cold Subscription Box was on its way to me. I was very impressed with the quick dispatch and fast delivery, along with their discreet outer packaging. There were no signs that this package contained items of a sexual nature. I opened up the plain, cardboard box and discovered a beautiful, red storage box with their brand name on the front.  Inside the box, I found an information sheet about the company and a guide for the box, giving some suggestions for use, which I loved. It was easy to read and helpful, especially for those who may be new to temperature play.

When I removed the information cards, I found four items in my box, which were:

  • Icicles No 8 Glass Dildo (RP £32.99)
  • Doc Johnson Good Head Deep Throat Spray in Mystical Mint (RP varies between £9.99 and £15)
  • Sliquid Sizzle Natural Stimulating Lubricant 125ml (RP varies between £10.99 and £15)
  • Crazy Girl After Dark Love-Spell Pheromone Soy Massage Candle in Black Orchid (RP according to Amazon £18-£19)

I added these costs up (starting from the lowest price I found) and the box total comes to a minimum of £72. This box costs £60 with a shipping cost of £5. So whilst this only saves you a few pounds, it provides an experience of luxury and excitement, that for me, makes it worth it.

Want to find out what I thought of the items? Here’s a brief overview of each product:

Icicles No 8I do actually own the Icicles No 8 already, but as I’m in a long distance relationship, I’ve always said I should have back ups of my favourite toys at his place, so I was actually very pleased to get my hands on another. I absolutely love this glass dildo, the shape and size are just perfect for me. I love the waves in the shaft, they make for a great internal massage.  I love my glass toys cold and this dildo reaches icy temperatures quickly if let in a bowl of cold water.

Good Head Deep Throat SprayThe Good Head spray I have tried before, but in the Strawberry flavour. I was pleased to try a new flavour as I am not overly fond of the strawberry. I like this one much more, it’s refreshing and adds a slight tingle for him too. A couple of sprays in the back of the throat is enough to numb it, in order to deep throat my partner successfully. My partner is on the large side, so things like this spray allow me to perform acts that I wouldn’t usually be able to, which is fun for both of us. It works great on sore throats too.

Sliquid Sizzle

When I saw this in the box, I was excited but also nervous. If you’ve read about my experiences with durex lubes, you’ll know the sensation lubricant was the worst thing in the world and it put me off them for a while. I should have known Sliquid wouldn’t let me down. If anyone can change my mind about a type of lubricant, Sliquid can. I’m so happy this was included in the box, it’s natural, free of nasties and lots of fun. It has great texture, is long-lasting and provides a gentle warming sensation that enhances playtime. It’s particularly fun when combined with the glass dildo.

Crazy Girl Massage Candle

I was slightly worried about this candle after a bad experience with a Crazy Girl Massage Oil, but it seems that the problems I had with that, don’t exist with this. There is one flaw with it, which is the tin, as it’s ridiculously difficult to open and I ended up with no nails. It seemed that some of the wax had melted around the inside of the tin, sealing it shut. However, it smells amazing, burns fairly quickly and absorbs into the skin beautifully, leaving no sticky or greasy texture behind.

Overall, I’m very pleased with this box and the items I received in it. Please note that the items in the box do not change, so this is what you will receive, should you choose to purchase it. If you like the idea of a sexy subscription, but don’t think this is the box for you, they have several other options such as the back door box, fifty shades of grey box and even a sensual romance box, for those who want something a little bit lighter. If you can’t find a box that suits you right now, stay tuned, as they are regularly adding new boxes. I’m sure there will be something for everyone as they continue to grow over the next few months. I’m hoping for an essentials box next, as a sex toy reviewer, I could do with a monthly subscription for lubricant and cleaner!

Update (November 2016): After being sent this box to review six months ago, I decided to go back and see how this company were doing and it seems that they are no longer in business or have moved/changed names. This box is no longer available to purchase, but you can find other adult subscription boxes here.
