Review: Maia Astral D3 Silicone Dildo

I recently received a couple of review items from the lovely people over at Wicked Butterfly and I was pretty pleased with both of the products that I received. I got the Sliquid Organics Silk Lubricant and the Maia D3 Silicone Dildo that I’ll be talking about in this post. They both arrived shortly after I was told they were on the way in discreet packaging as promised. The Maia D3 itself is presented in a simple cardboard box with a clear viewing window in the front and the colours of erotica, which are the shades that Maia use for their toys, on the side. The packaging is not particularly interesting or nice to look at, but it does the job. Inside the box, the dildo is sealed inside plastic casing along with a couple of information leaflets and a matching storage pouch.

The Maia Astral D3 is made from medical grade silicone, which is free from phthalates and latex. It’s hypoallergenic, body-safe and can be completely sterilised in the dishwasher or with a 10% bleach solution, which I’d recommend doing every few uses, especially if switching orifices and/or partners. Between the deeper cleans, a few spritzes of toy cleaner and a rinse is enough. I found the silicone feels extremely smooth and matte, but it has some definite drag to it, particularly around the textured parts of the shaft, so water-based lubricant is a must-have when using the D3. The material looks good and feels high quality, the toy doesn’t appear to have any flaws and looks almost seamless unless you’re up close. It appears to be well-made with aesthetics taken into consideration. Upon feeling it for the first time, I was actually surprised by the firmness of it. It was much harder than I had anticipated and offers no flexibility whatsoever.

I don’t think this toy is one that I’d recommend to a beginner as this toy has the texture, firmness and girth that edge it towards the large dildos category. It offers up five and a half inches of girth, which might not sound all that large, but it certainly feels bigger when the texture comes into play. The rigidness of the dildo adds to the experience too, as this makes it look and feel bigger than it is. There’s seven inches of insertable length to experiment with, which is my preference and usually my maximum, depending on my cervix’s temperament, so this toy falls within my comfort zone, but I need some warm-up before I can use this toy without doing any damage.

I decided to warm-up with the Tantus Flurry and coat it in water-based lubricant before laying back and slowly beginning to insert it. I began to feel a familiar and almost instant stretching sensation, which is something I’m starting to enjoy and the dimensions of this toy meant it felt good, rather than uncomfortable. Once the head was almost fully inserted, I noticed a slight dip below it, that is quite defined and has the same shape and curve of the Lelo Ella. I absolutely love that toy, so I hoped from the moment of noticing the similarities between them that this toy would be able to provide great g-spot stimulation and I was granted that. I made it past the Ella-like curve and felt the bulbous head against my g-spot, which is a sensation I love. Gently thrusting the D3 further inside me, I felt the stimulation becoming quite intense and orgasm inducing.

It’s not just the g-spot that this toy stimulated though, I managed to get two other areas of simultaneous sensation going on. The first being the glorious texture of the shaft working magic against my vaginal walls, the five delightful ribs can be felt extremely well when using this toy in a slow in and out motion. I can still feel them and get some enjoyment when thrusting faster, but it’s minimal as I can’t feel them as intensely, so I prefer to be gentle with this toy for the best experience. The second area of stimulation was the stretching sensation I mentioned earlier. When these three things are combined together, I have pretty fantastic orgasms.

The D3 is safe for anal play due to the flared base and can be used in a harness, if you or your partner are brave enough. We are not. I have not even attempted to use this toy anally and I have no plans to either. I require dual density to take larger dildos in this orifice and as this toy is not, I just don’t see it happening without hurting myself. It may be fine for more experienced anal players, but I’ll be sticking to vaginal use only.

Maia Astral D3 Silicone Dildo 5

Overall, I would recommend the Maia Astral D3 Silicone Dildo to intermediate toy users who like texture and advise beginners to opt for something smaller, softer and smoother first. I’m happy with the quality and how well it stimulates my g-spot, but this toy isn’t one of my favourites. It doesn’t wow me, so falls into the average category. It’s a dildo I have to be in the mood for and most of the time, I’m in the mood for Tantus instead.

You can purchase the Maia D3 ($36.99/£27.21) from Bettys Toy Box. Affiliate links have been used within this post.
