When I started reviewing sex toys a couple of years ago, the dream was to be able to test a product or two from one of the most popular sex shops in the UK, Ann Summers. Recently, I got the opportunity to do just that and I was beyond excited. I asked to review a couple of rabbit vibrators as I don’t have many in my collection and we all know that Ann Summers is the birthplace of the Rampant Rabbit. I have tried a couple of them before, on behalf of Cara Sutra’s Pleasure Panel, but there’s so many to choose from and I wanted to experience a few more. The Rampant Rabbit was one of the first sex toys I ever heard of and even the most sexually reserved people I know (such as my grandmother) own one. Finding this information out, I became all the more curious to want to understand why these rabbits are so favoured amongst sex toy users. So let’s find out, shall we?
The package arrived quickly and I was happy with the presentation. The Ann Summers Rampant Rabbit The Curved One (which will now be referred to as The Curved One so this review doesn’t become a novel) comes in a black and pink box with a product shot on the front. There’s some key features listed on the side of the packaging and a description/brief directions for use on the back. Inside, the toy is protected within some plastic casing alongside a user leaflet. Rampant Rabbits do not come with storage bags and for me that’s a minor downside, but Ann Summers do stock these bags separately.
The Curved One is made from silicone. A hypoallergenic material with no odour, no phthalates and no latex. If you want something that’s non-toxic, non-porous and easy to clean, then silicone is for you. It’s completely body-safe, but usually has some drag to the material. In this case, there wasn’t much. You see, the silicone is as smooth as freshly shaven legs, which makes it glide more easily into the body. This does not mean that lube isn’t needed though. This is not a small vibrator, so be sure to keep a bottle of water based lubricant on hand and slather it on the internal arm in particular. I also use it on the external arm for added comfort, but that’s a matter of personal preference rather than necessity.
It’s listed as waterproof so you can rinse it thoroughly with warm water before each use to remove all of the traces of lint and cat hair that this material attracts. After use, rinse with warm water again, but add soap or sex toy cleaner to remove fluids and traces of use. I like to keep water away from the battery compartment so I just wipe down the control panel with a toy wipe and then leave the whole thing to dry naturally before putting it away for next time.
This is a battery operated rabbit and it takes three triple a’s. To insert them you need to remove the cap from the toy. There’s a little switch that says open above it, so flick that upwards (you may need to use some pressure or force as it’s a bit stiff) and the cap should come loose. Remove that and insert the required batteries into the compartment as shown on the diagram in the user leaflet, then clip the cap back into place firmly. The Curved One will not work if the cap isn’t on properly, nor will it remain waterproof.
Control wise, this has an easy to understand panel as there are only two buttons. These are separated by the light indicators which means there’s no need to worry about accidentally pressing the wrong button in the heat of the moment. The button at the top controls the power, so tap once to turn on the vibrations and tap again to turn off when finished. To change through the seven functions (three speeds, four patterns) press the wave button at the bottom of the panel. The light indicators work in accordance with the setting being used – all three lights remain on during the constant speed settings then flash in time with the patterns. This indicates three motors as the lower light flashes when the clitoral arm vibrates, the second light flashes when the lower shaft vibrates and the top light flashes in time with the tips vibrations.
It has just over nine inches of overall length with five inches being insertable. It also has a maximum girth of 4.75 inches and this is on the lower portion of the shaft. This makes it one of the bigger rabbits on the market but not unmanageable. I wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending this to a complete beginner as I feel the dimensions be too large or intimidating for them, but anyone with penetration experience or who has used toys of this size before should be fine. I find the measurements pretty much perfect for what I’m looking for in a dual stimulator.
Out of the three battery operated Rampant Rabbits that I’ve tried to date, The Curved One has fit my body the best. It has a slightly shorter clitoral arm than the other two and as my clitoris is close to my entrance, this length works best for me. It manages to sit directly on the clitoris rather than above it or next to it. If your anatomy sounds similar to mine then you may have luck with the fit of this rabbit. If you know that your clitoris sits a bit higher, then you may want to look at some of their other options. Rabbits are notoriously difficult to get right as we’re all different but this one matches closely enough with my body that I can make it work for me.
The shaft motors are more what I’d consider to be ‘rumbly’. They don’t have a huge amount of depth to them, but there’s no high-frequency buzzing either. I think they pack a good punch even on their lowest intensity. I wasn’t expecting the strength, but I was pleased to have it.
As for the clitoral arm, it’s a little buzzy, but not obviously so. I’m used to feeling out the differences between vibrations so I noticed it, but I don’t think it’ll be obvious to anyone who’s not looking for it. I can feel the frequency difference, but the vibrations aren’t buzzy enough to numb the clitoris, they’re simply a little bit weaker than the internal arm.
Blended clitoral and vaginal orgasms are the main purpose behind rabbit vibrators and when I can hit both of the spots to hit that blend I have to give credit where it’s due. I thought the internal arm of The Curved One would be too flexible for me to get the sort of pressure I need on my g-spot, but it wasn’t. It may be flexible and easy to maneuver into whatever positions feel comfortable for the user, but that doesn’t take away the firmness that the shaft has. There some squish here and there to make insertion comfortable, but it’s not so soft that it affects my ability to use adequate pressure.
It has a slightly bulbous head and a gentle curve down the length of the shaft that make it ideal for g-spot stimulation. I can thrust the internal arm without the external arm losing contact with the clitoris and then pound the g-spot into submitting an orgasm. Thrusting is my preferred technique with this particular rabbit and boy, does it work. If I combine fast movements with the highest intensity working in both arms then I have no problems reaching the desired blended outcome. It takes longer than a combination of two toys, say the We-Vibe Tango and the Tantus Sport, but that only means I’m ready for round two much faster and am more willing to explore multiple climaxes during a session.
Noise wise, the box states that The Curved One is quiet running and it’s the only thing I’d have to disagree with. It’s not very quiet in my opinion, but I think the strength and multitude of motors has something to do with that. I couldn’t use this with others in the house and I actually do still live at home which limits how often I can it. So because of that I wouldn’t be able to recommend this to people who need discretion although there is another Rampant Rabbit that I’ll be reviewing shortly that fits the bill. If noise isn’t an issue for you and you can handle the measurements, this could be great for you.
Overall, I think The Curved One is a perfect example of what makes the Rampant Rabbit range so popular. It’s body safe waterproof, powerful and easy to control. It may be a little intimidating to beginners due to its chunky nature, but for anybody who’s been around a sex toy or two, that should not be a problem. I love that this toy is firm but flexible and the curve of the shaft is divinely fit for purpose. Both arms fit me well and I can’t really complain when a rabbit works for me on both counts. The only downside I can see is noise, but I can look past this considering the rest of the toys features are wonderful.
I received the Ann Summers Rampant Rabbit The Curved One (£40) from Ann Summers in exchange for my honest review. Thank you!
