I can’t speak on behalf of all women, but I know that I personally need clitoral stimulation to get off 90% of the time. If I’m in a PIV situation or using an insertable toy vaginally then the chances of me climaxing from that alone is slim to none. It’s not impossible as there are some g-spot toys or super textured toys that can get me there, but generally I need vibrations or something forcefully pressing against my clitoris. Over the past couple of years I’ve found balms like this increase my sensitivity to a point where I can achieve mind-blowing orgasms during internal play without needing the additions of silicone or plastic against my hood. For that reason I always have some on hand and recently I’ve been reaching for the Coco de Mer Pure Delight Orgasm Balm on the regular. If you want to find out how I got on with this product read on or jump to the quick review for the facts!
Coco de Mer are known for their lavish products and this covers every aspect of their own-brand items, including the packaging. I have a couple of other essentials from this Pleasure collection and all have been presented beautifully. The Pure Delight comes in a vintage patterned box with a brown cardboard sleeve slid over the top. Inside the box I found the 20g glass pot complete with Coco’s signature gold writing. The bottom of the pot lists the ingredients and basic directions for use. It also shows you that this should be used within 12 months of opening.
I feel that it is discreet enough for me to leave the balm out without it catching a visitor’s attention. It doesn’t scream out ‘I’m a sexy product, use me for orgasms’ and could be easily mistaken for a tub of lip balm or under-eye cream. I think it would make a great travel companion as it’s pretty compact, although I’d advise wrapping it in something to be on the safe side. It does feel sturdy and I doubt it would break unless dropped from some height, but it’s still glass after all.
To use, apply a small amount of the Pure Delight to your fingertips and massage into the clitoral area. I noticed an almost immediate response following application. I first felt a familiar breeze, which I believe is caused by the included Menthol, and this was followed by a tingling sensation. It seems to develop and become more intense as time passes and it definitely lasts long enough for me to get the job done. Whether I’m using it during masturbation or sex, I’ve never outlasted it. If I wanted to use this for hour-long sessions I may need a top-up, but thirty or forty minutes of clitoral fun is usually enough for me.
I was pleased with the degree of intensity that this balm provided. I didn’t need much of it to feel the desired sensations. It lasted me a couple of months with almost daily use and that surprised me because the pot’s tiny. I will definitely be getting another pot of this when I’m through with my second lot as its one of my favourite balms to date. It is a bit pricier than I’d usually go for, but I cannot argue with the results.
In terms of scent and consistency, both are good. I could definitely pick up on the menthol, but it’s fresh, minty and clean so not a turn off for us at all. If you’re not fond of peppermint type scents in the bedroom then this may not be right for you. It doesn’t taste good (according to mr coolerthanaglassdildo) so we wouldn’t recommend using it during oral sex. The taste of menthol on the tongue is not an enjoyable one. Texture wise, it’s almost creamy, but is very slick and easy on the skin. I’m very sensitive and thankfully has no problems.
Overall, I’m very fond of the Pure Delight balm. It works better than Lovehoney’s Bombshell Balms in my opinion and that’s interesting as they used to be the orgasm enhancing holy grail for me. This isn’t sticky or greasy before, after or during application and it works very quickly one massaged into the clitoral area. It does cost more than I’d usually want to pay and I’d usually reserve a luxury essential like this for special occasions, but I’m making the exception for this product as I’m yet to find better for less.
