Review: Fifty Shades of Grey Silky Caress Lubricant

I received several bottles of this lubricant free with a couple of other purchases. I hadn’t really thought about trying this branded lubricant before, but as I had so many bottles lying around, I decided to give it a try. I get through water-based lube crazily fast, especially when using toys multiple times a day or when my partner is visiting. My other half is very picky with lubricant and will not use it if it’s too sticky or clumps on the skin (like the Durex ones we tried and hated). He seems to like this one and has no complaints. Don’t want to read the whole review and just want the facts? Skip to the quick review.

There’s no outer packaging, the bottle comes as is, in true Fifty Shades range style. The bottle is sleek and well presented. As I took my first glance at the bottle, I noted a small annoyance, the lid faced the side of the bottle rather than the front. I thought it might have just been loose, but it wasn’t. Most people won’t be bothered about this, but I love having my bottles in order and it ruined the feng shui. What I did like about the lid though, is that it is flip-up style. This protects the rest of my lube box from spillages.

When I opened the bottle I couldn’t smell any nasty odours or chemical scents. I couldn’t smell much at all. I applied a little lube to my finger and thought it actually smelt similar to Sudocrem. Not the sexiest of smells, but isn’t too off-putting. I wish this had the scent of sandalwood as the massage oil and spanking cream do.

I haven’t tasted it, but my partner has accidentally and said there was no distinctive or bad taste. Not a lube we’d ever choose to use during oral sex, but if he happened to come across it again, he wouldn’t be put off.

As a woman with sensitive skin, I find it best to do a patch test when trying new products. I had no reaction to this. My skin did feel moisturised and smooth though. The Silky Caress lubricant feels great on the skin, it’s thick but not sticky, I don’t want to rinse it off straight away like I do with Durex lubes. It’s long-lasting so need to interrupt play to top-up, unless it’s a particularly long session.

Fifty Shades of Grey Silky Caress LubricantThe colour was unusual to me as I’ve always used clear water-based lubricants and this one comes out white. I think it looks more like ejaculate than lube, but once rubbed into the skin or toy, the colouring is no longer noticeable.

This lubricant is great with toys of various materials, it’s particularly great with textured toys as it’s a little bit thicker. I tend to use this most with glass or dildos with extra grippy silicone. We don’t use this lubricant during sex anymore but I’ll make use of the stash I have with daily masturbation sessions with my favourite toys.
