I received a tub of this Fifty Shades of Grey Soothe Me After Spanking Cream free with a Lovehoney order and I’ll be honest, my first thought was “what do I need that for?”. I have always just used sudocrem or zerocream post spanking so I saw no real need for this but I decided to give it a chance anyway. I’m glad that I did because there were a few things that I really liked about it, but I haven’t purchased another tub myself as I think it’s too pricey for what it is. It arrives nicely presented in a small box in the traditional Fifty Shades branded style. It’s part of the Sensual Care Collection and all products in this line follow this dark navy and silver theme. It’s fairly friendly, non-intimidating and couple/beginner friendly. Inside the box we found the classy-looking pot of after spanking cream. I rather liked the chrome finish on the lid as I felt this gave a more luxury feel to the product. You receive 50ml of cream per tub which I think is plenty and lasts long enough for around 20-30 aftercare sessions.
When I opened up the pot I immediately recognised the scent. It’s the same as the Massage and Bath Oil from this range, both of which happen to be firm favourites of ours. I’d describe it as masculine and expensive aftershave like. I would genuinely buy my other half an aftershave that smells like this. I think it smells lovely. It is quite strong and long-lasting but it’s definitely not overpowering or sickly. It just seems to fill the room with the scent of musky hunk, which is never a bad thing in my opinion! I personally find the scent to be a turn-on and it’s also pretty comforting following a heavy spanking session.
At first glance I thought this After Spanking Cream may be gooey in texture and sticky or greasy on the skin, but I was mistaken. It has a similar consistency to Cocoa Butter and just feels nourishing rather than tacky. I had my partner only use a small amount at first, as I suffer with sensitive skin, but I encountered no problems when using this product. Once a fair amount is applied and thoroughly massaged into the skin and covering the affected areas, I notice an almost immediate soothing sensation. I start to cool down and can sit more comfortably following use, which is something that takes a couple of days when using something like Sudocrem.
Overall, I wasn’t sure what to expect having never tried an after spanking cream before and finding no problems with using something inexpensive from the medicine cabinet, but I was pleasantly surprised. It has a relaxing scent, cooling properties and a moisturising long-lasting effect which is perfect following the use of a stingy implement. I don’t think there are any real faults besides the price. I would use it again if I received another tub free but I wouldn’t go out and purchase it.
