Review: Licx Gel Lubricant

I’ve set myself a challenge recently to try out several new lubricants, as I seem to just use the same ones time and time again. I contacted Licx and asked if they’d be willing to help me out with my mission and they kindly agreed to send me their Gel Lubricant, Deluxe Cream Lubricant and some Arousal Gels in exchange for an honest review. Huge thank you to Licx for kickstarting my search and allowing me to experience the joys of this lubricant, that I may not have tried otherwise. Keep reading to find out those joys, or skip to the quick review, if you just want a basic rundown of the product.

If you haven’t heard of Licx, I’ll briefly explain who they are and what they do. They’re a company who aim to create an approachable space for people to purchase their intimate products. They currently offer two lubricants, arousal gels for her and intimate wipes. They are still continuing to grow their range and are open to customer feedback and suggestions. I support those companies who genuinely listen to what people want and aim to provide customers with the products they are looking for. I am looking forward to seeing how Licx expand their range and I’m hoping the next product will be a high quality silicone lubricant. (I’ll be first in line wanting to try that!)

My package was despatched quickly and I received it just two days later, discreetly as promised. It arrived in a plain, padded envelope and there was no way of anybody knowing the contents. This is hugely important with products of this nature and I hope that discreet packaging will encourage people who might feel uncomfortable purchasing these items in shops to go ahead and buy them online.

As you can see from the above pictures, the packaging is very similar to that of the Deluxe Cream Lubricant, with the only difference being colour.  Just a deep purple box with silver detailing and the brand/product name on the front. The tube continues with the same theme as the outer box, being simple and classic in design also. I feel these products could be left out amongst other items and not really noticed as they don’t scream lubricant (like Durex ones do). The tube does feature a hygiene seal for added confidence that it hasn’t been tampered with, which I’m always happy to find on my lubricants.

Once again, I asked for the 100ml tube of this lubricant, as I like to try out smaller sizes first, so I don’t end up with a huge bottle of lubricant that I dislike. It’s available in 5ml sachets and 250ml bottles too. As this size comes in a tube, the lubricant is dispensed via flipping the cap and squeezing. I generally don’t like this method of dispensing as I find it can be messy and wasteful, but the Licx lubricants are fairly thick, so it’s easy to get the desired amount of product.

The Gel Lubricant comes out of the tube with a clear appearance and great consistency. I was expecting it to be a little watery or runny, but this isn’t the case at all. It’s the complete opposite of the Cream Lubricant in terms of texture, which might seem obvious, but this one isn’t stringy like that one is, nor does the consistency change once it’s rubbed in. Once it is applied, I found it lasted for quite a while, usually I find water-based lubricants require a top up every twenty minutes or so, but this one lasts a little bit longer and can be revitalised with a quick spritz of water. On top of this, it’s moisturising and leaves skin feeling soft and hydrated, rather than sticky. It has no particular odour or taste, although I probably wouldn’t recommend it for oral sex.

Overall, I prefer this lubricant to the Cream one for multiple reasons. Most importantly, this one is paraben free. It does contain Propylene Glycol however, which some people prefer not to use. I do fit into this category, but I have had no reactions from using this product, so I can make the exception. It has a better texture and consistency, it doesn’t change from its original state, nor does it become stringy or sticky like the Cream one does, which can be off-putting.  It’s longer-lasting and feels better on the skin, so I’d be much happier to recommend this lubricant to others. I would be happy to use this lubricant again and would consider purchasing a bigger bottle in the future.
