Review: Black Rose Wrist-to-Collar Restraint Set

If you want good quality, pretty and affordable bondage pieces that are suitable for all experience levels then the Black Rose collection from Bondage Boutique could be a perfect contender. After receiving a few items from the line in a mystery bundle last year I was excited to see some more additions added recently. I was particularly interested in the Wrist-to-Collar Restraint Set as I’ve been looking for an intermediate collar for a while and this aesthetically pleasing combo appeared to tick all of the boxes. Did it still tick those boxes after testing it? Let’s find out.

Made from faux leather, this set is suitable for vegans and people who like to avoid the real deal. It feels supple, high quality and doesn’t disappoint in the quality department. The gorgeous black rose aesthetic that I love so much patterns the exterior and the finishings are made from matte black metal. There is a connecting chain, several buckles and multiple D-rings. All of them can handle strong tugs and sharp movements as they are well secured to the restraints. I have no concerns about them breaking off or coming loose whatsoever.

Tom and I both identity as switches so we like to have restraints in our collection that work for both of us. It makes finding suitable items for sessions much easier and allows us to swap over halfway through if we want. We have both worn the Bondage Boutique Beginners Collar previously which gave us an indication that the depth of this particular collar would be fine. If you or your partner have only worn the thin choker style collars before then this one may feel more restrictive and uncomfortable at first but it doesn’t completely restrict head movements or force your head back like a posture collar would.

I wore the collar set first and found it fairly comfortable. It wasn’t as comfortable as the beginners collar mentioned above but that was to be expected as this one has no neoprene padding. The faux leather is soft enough for a couple of hours wear. According to my partner I have a small neck so finding collars that are adjustable enough can be problematic. We got this one tight enough to fit as it has nine eyes on the straps to suit a range of sizes. I wear it through the seventh hole which leaves enough room to get two fingers underneath to relieve contact if needed but not enough room to be ineffective.

His turn to wear it came next. He agreed with me in regards to comfort and said that he preferred this to the other basic collars in our collection as it’s more restrictive, allowing him to embrace his submissive side. He has a larger neck circumference than I do but the collar also managed to fit him well. He wears it through the second or third hole depending how tight he wants it on that given day. Overall, it can adjust between 12.5 inches and 17.5 inches. It is completed with a detachable lead that can be removed instantly if needed due to the quick-release clip.

As for the wrist restraints, I also struggle finding these to fit however I knew I would be fine with these as we own the regular wrist cuffs from this range. These have seven eyes on the strap and I wear them on the second to last hole for a tight, secure fight that I can’t wriggle free from. My partner wears them through the second hole when it’s his turn to be restrained and says these are some of the most comfortable wrist restraints he’s ever worn. These can be adjusted between 5.5 inches and 10 inches.

I briefly touched on the fact that my partner likes the idea of being able to quickly remove the lead if needed. I think this is a great idea for those who may be new to restraints, safety conscious (always good when engaging in bondage situations) or unsure about being controlled via a leash. The quick-release clips are also attached to the wrist restraints so can be unclipped from the collar in a matter of seconds should there be a spoken safe word or other emergency situation. The only thing that can’t be removed instantly is the collar as this needs unbuckling first. Quick release clips are not only good for fast removal as they can be alternatively used for introducing other pieces of restraint.

To conclude, we were more than satisfied with this set. The rose patterned design makes it non-intimidating and the release clips make this set perfect for beginners and intermediate users. We were impressed that we were able to make the collar and the wrist restraints fit us both despite the differences in our measurements. As a result of this I’m happy to state that they are suitable for a wide range of people, just check in with the above measurements first to be sure that includes you. The only thing we didn’t like about the set was the lead. It’s very plain and basic in comparison to the rest of the set which was disappointing. A matching lead would have been the perfect finishing touch and I wouldn’t have minded if that had amped up the cost by a few pounds.

Review: COMMAND Wrist to Ankle Restraint Set

After months of being distracted by exciting suction stimulators and rimming butt plugs, I realized that it had been a while since we had tried something new in the bondage world. Our intrigue was peaked when we spotted this brand new Sir Richard’s bondage collection on Lovehoney’s website. Every piece in the range looked professional, heavy-duty and worthy of being in a dominatrix’s kit. I can definitely imagine a dungeon being kitted out with this entire collection to torment subs with. After we had put these Wrist to Ankle Restraints through their paces, we felt like we’d finally reached an advanced level of bondage play that put our old fluffy handcuffs and silk ties to shame.

From the moment I saw the packaging I knew that these restraints were going to be good quality. The box has a solid black and white theme with some shots of the cuffs in use, their key features and some rough guidelines for use. There’s a section on the back that reads “the Command collection is for serious BDSM connoisseurs who demand the best” and also mentions that they are suitable for “extreme fetish play.” If they are good enough for those extreme players then they are definitely good enough for me.

The Command Wrist-to-Ankle Restraints are made from black industrial strength nylon and are finished with stainless steel hardware and carabiners. They look tough and like they mean business, and as someone who’s been restrained with them, I can vouch that they live up to their aesthetic. One thing that I particularly liked about this set is that it’s vegan friendly. A lot of bondage products use leather which is something an animal lover like myself would rather avoid, so it’s great to see a range providing viable high-quality alternatives.

Made up of two parts, this restraint set arrives separated which makes getting into them much easier. The set consists of an expansion strap and some looped restraints. My partner slipped one pair of the looped straps around my wrists and the other around my ankles. He pulled the strap through the buckle until there was a tight enough fit and then asked me to check whether I could wriggle around or get loose. I couldn’t. Once those straps had been adjusted to fit me, there was no getting out of them until my partner loosened them.

Command Wrist-to-Ankle Restraint SetAccording to him, I have small ankles and wrists, which makes finding suitable restraints difficult. Over the past couple of years we have tried a bunch of options that have been far too big for me and it’s especially rare for us to find suitable heavy-duty restraints. These cuffs are so adjustable (each cuff can adjust up to twenty inches in circumference) that we encountered no problems in getting them tight enough to fit me securely. If you’re in the same boat as me then the Command range is well worth a look.

There are three main ways to use the restraints. The first is as separate wrist and ankle restraints. They hold limbs together well and would be a great starting point for those who haven’t tried more restrictive restraints before but want to up their game and have something inescapable. The second method is as a hogtie. I have been wanting to try one of these for a long time and it was very easy to create one by removing the expansion strap and attaching the clips to the buckles on the restraints. The final way to use them is as pictured on the box. Add the expansion strap to both cuffs for ultimate, maximum restriction.

Command Wrist-to-Ankle Restraint SetWe mostly used the second method of me in a hogtie as the expansion strap just doesn’t work for me unless I’m standing up. It’s hard to do anything other than spanking whilst standing due to the height difference between my partner and I. I’m only five foot tall (damn stunted growth) so when laying or sitting the strap is just long and loose and I can move more than my partner would like.

My six-foot two partner can stretch the strap out enough for it to work as intended which makes it obvious to me that this range was designed with taller people in mind. If it had an adjustable slider it would have been able to work for both of us so that’s something I’d like to see on any future additions to this collection.

Overall, the Command range looks intimidating with its stainless steel hardware and heavy-duty branding and so far, these restraints have lived up to that perception. For that reason I would not be comfortable recommending this range to bondage beginners at all. These are tough restraints and don’t offer an easy escape like quick release clips and velcro fastenings do. I would recommend starting with some of the softer restraints first and work up to pieces like when you have time, patience and experience under your belt. If you’re an intermediate to advanced player that’s into the idea of not being able to release yourself then this range is perfect for you.

Review: Bondage Boutique Soft Bondage Kit

Bondage Boutique Soft Bondage KitWhen I ordered one of Lovehoney’s Mystery Bundles last year, I thought I’d have round to the individual reviews much quicker than this, but alas, I was distracted by Satisfyers and Tantus. I finally have some time set aside to tell you more about the contents of the Kinky Couples Box, starting with this kit. I personally wouldn’t class this set as all that kinky, because most people who class themselves as such have gone past the soft bondage elements and worked up to tougher gear. It’s definitely a little tame for us as this point, but we’ve gotten a decent amount of use out of the items when convenience calls and we don’t have time for buckles and locks.

It was presented in standard Bondage Boutique fashion inside a plain, plastic packet. It comes with an attached branded fag, but this does not list any safety information whatsoever. Maybe I’m extra cautious, or maybe my anxiety is kicking in, but I think safety aspects and the importance of safe words should be mentioned on the packaging of every bondage product, no matter how mild they may be.

Bondage Boutique Soft Bondage KitThe blindfold and the cuffs are made from a combination of neoprene and faux fur. The faux fur is soft and light on the skin whilst the neoprene is smooth and sturdier than I anticipated. It feels really durable and I can see both items lasting a while. The blindfold is pretty flexible so it can be maneuvered into a comfortable position on the face without bending out of shape. It also has a stretchy elasticated strap that goes around the back of the head and this is expandable enough that it will fit most head shapes and sizes.

If fits my partner and I well, but it doesn’t block out as much light as we’d like. It’s completely dark around the eye area but some light can sneak in under the nose gap and the bottom edges of the blindfold. It’s not moulded to the face like the Tease by Lovehoney Blindfold, so it’s not a blackout style, but it does add some suspense and an air of mystery to a given scenario. I feel that it blocks out enough light to stop me seeing exactly what he’s doing, but shows enough for me to get the gist of what’s coming next.

As for the wrist cuffs, they fasten via velcro so are quick to put on and even faster to take off. I have small wrists according to my partner and it’s hard to come across wrist cuffs that fit me as a result. If I pull the strap as tightly as I can then these cuffs fit decently, but I could escape them if I really wanted to. I don’t really wear these cuffs because of that as I’d rather have a tighter fit. My partner struggles with cuffs for the opposite reason but he had no issues with these ones fitting him. He can wear them without the materials digging into his skin and causing discomfort.

Bondage Boutique Soft Bondage KitMy favourite thing about these cuffs is the quick release clips. These can be attached together to bind the wrists side by side or they can be separated so that the wrists can be spread apart and tied up with extra restraints like rope. Another thing these clips are useful for is emergency situations. If a person needs to get up or move quickly, the clips can be separated within seconds leaving you to move freely without having to waste time taking the cuffs off.

Overall, my partner and I agreed on the fact that the blindfold is uber comfortable to wear and it would make a great starting piece for someone new to sensory deprivation. If complete darkness and not being able to make sense of your surroundings sounds intimidating to you, this would be a great stepping stone. My partner thinks the cuffs are fantastic too. They aren’t the best for those of us who small wrists, but outside of that, there are no complaints.

Review: Bondage Boutique Raspberry Pleasure Leather Wrist Cuffs

Bondage Boutique Raspberry Pleasure Leather Wrist CuffsAfter I received the Ankle Cuffs to test, I wanted to complete the matching set. I decided to leave out the collar, but I did buy the Blindfold and the Wrist Cuffs. Typically, I am not the biggest fan of pink, but I actually really like shades of raspberry and this one is lovely. It makes a nice change from all the black and red bondage items we have in our collection. Dark pink is quite rare in bondage too, as it’s mostly light, sissy pink that is used.

Like all Bondage Boutique products, the blindfold arrives in simplistic packaging. Just a clear, plastic pouch with a tag attached. I don’t think any other packaging is particularly necessary, but it would be nice with lovely items such as this one.

When I opened up the packet, I was greeted with the raw scent of leather, which I love. It resonated for several weeks after purchase too, which was great. I then noticed how well made it appeared to be. The leather is of a high standard and feels delightfully smooth to the touch. I wasn’t really sure what to expect considering the price point, but they are just as luxurious as some of the items I have from the Dominix range, which are considerably more expensive.

Finding buckled restraints that fit me can be something of a challenge, but the Pleasure Leather Cuffs have nine holes of adjustability, so I thought one of them was bound to work for me. I was right. The minimum size that these cuffs are said to accommodate is 6 inches, but my wrists are around five and I found these to be fit for purpose, whilst being comfortable and not loose enough to fall off. I fasten them through the eighth setting most of time, as I don’t want to be completely unable to fit a finger underneath the cuff to relieve pressure if I need to. I don’t have the best circulation, so I’m more cautious than most about my restraints not being skin-tight.

One thing that I love about these cuffs is the double-ended quick-release clip that attaches them together, as it can be removed from both, or either end, depending on the circumstances. I think this is a great idea, especially for emergency situations where you need to get up and move quickly as the clip can be completely removed, leaving you to move freely without having to waste time taking the cuffs off. It also makes these cuffs more versatile as wrists can be separated with other restraints attached to the D-rings depending on what you are in the mood for.

Bondage Boutique Raspberry Pleasure Leather Wrist CuffsOverall, I think these cuffs are great. I love the quality, the fit and the adjustability. They are super comfortable to wear and I think they’d be great for people with all levels of experience, although the quick release clip would make these a great introductory pair for those who are new to or cautious about using restraints. The only downside to these for us was that my partners wrists were too large and he has to resort to using the ankle cuffs on his wrists when wanting to be restrained.
